Staff Software Engineer (Full stack)

We're building the payment rails for real estate. Backed by top investors (a16z, Sequoia Capital), we're generating real revenue and growing 30% month over month. Our team is small, senior, and experienced. We're looking for an engineer who wants to contribute meaningfully to a product that's reshaping an industry.
What you'll do
This role is full stack, and we're looking for someone who brings a frontend point of view to it. You'll own a domain rather than a backlog, and you'll be the person who sets the bar on the interface: interaction details and the states nobody specced. The surfaces you'll own are the ones where money moves: loan applications, hosted checkout, invoices and proposals, payment plans. Long multi-step flows, real money in the inputs, and failure states that have to be right the first time.
Own the technical direction of a domain: the architecture, the data model, and the call on what gets built and what does not.
Lead efforts that span quarters and cross functions. Take a business problem with no defined shape, work out what the right solution is, and drive it through to shipped.
Set the engineering standards other people work to, and make them stick through review, tooling, and example rather than decree.
Scope aggressively, and teach the team to do the same. Find the smallest version that solves the real problem, ship it, and iterate from what you learn.
Work across our TypeScript / React / Node.js / Postgres / GCP stack.
Multiply the people around you. Mentoring and teaching is a core part of the job here, across engineering and across functions, not a side activity you get to if there's time.
Partner with product, design, and the founders on what belongs on the roadmap, not just how it gets built.
Own the event-driven architecture behind money movement as we scale.
Own our component library and design system, and the frontend architecture around it.
Why this role
You own the problem, not the ticket: you'll be handed goals and constraints, not specs to implement.
Real technical authority: on a team this size, a staff engineer's architectural calls are the ones that ship. There is no committee between you and the decision.
AI is in the daily loop: get real leverage out of it, and still own what ships.
Speed comes from scope: we work fast by cutting scope and prioritizing what actually matters, not by working longer hours. Small sharp releases over big-bang launches, craftsmanship where it counts.

What we're looking for
Substantial professional experience building and shipping software across both frontend and backend systems, including a track record of leading efforts that ran longer than a quarter and touched more than one team.
Deep TypeScript and React. You set the patterns other people follow, and you can name the call you would make differently now.
A record of raising the level of the engineers around you. You can point to specific people who got better because of how you worked with them.
Real product judgment. You have killed features that should not have shipped, and cut scopes in half and been right.
You scope your own work and other people's. You can turn a vague ask into a plan, break it into pieces that ship independently, and cut what isn't worth building.
Care about UX craft: responsive layouts, accessibility, motion, latency.
Strong in Node.js and Postgres. You have designed schemas and APIs that outlived their assumptions, and you know which ones did not.
Collaborative, curious, and kind.
Bonus points
Owned a design system or component library end to end.
Fluent in Figma, or you prototype in code to explore a design.
Exposure to financial, payments, or real-time systems.
You've made AI tooling actually pay off in your own work, and can say concretely how.
Prior startup or small-team experience, particularly as the person others brought hard problems to.
Salary range
$210 - $300k + competitive equity and benefits
