Role Summary
We are looking for an experienced Database Architect to support a large-scale enterprise modernization and migration program. The role will focus on database architecture, DB2-to-PostgreSQL migration, and VSAM/IMS conversion, working closely with global delivery and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Define and implement database architecture for modernization and migration initiatives.
Lead DB2 to PostgreSQL migration and transformation activities.
Assess legacy VSAM and IMS data structures and develop conversion strategies.
Design scalable, secure, and high-performance database solutions.
Analyze existing database schemas, dependencies, data models, and workloads.
Develop migration strategies covering data extraction, transformation, validation, and reconciliation.
Support database modernization from legacy/mainframe platforms to modern cloud and distributed environments.
Identify migration risks, performance bottlenecks, and data integrity issues.
Collaborate with application, mainframe, cloud, data engineering, and architecture teams.
Provide technical guidance and architectural recommendations to global delivery teams.
Establish database standards, best practices, governance, and technical documentation.
Support performance tuning, capacity planning, backup/recovery, and high-availability considerations.
Contribute to technical design reviews, proof-of-concepts, and modernization roadmaps.
Required Skills & Experience
Strong experience as a Database Architect / Data Architect / Database Migration Architect.
Hands-on experience with DB2 and PostgreSQL.
Proven experience with DB2-to-PostgreSQL migration projects.
Strong understanding of VSAM and IMS databases/data structures.
Experience in legacy/mainframe modernization and migration programs.
Strong knowledge of relational database architecture, data modeling, SQL, and database performance.
Experience with data migration, ETL/ELT, data validation, and reconciliation.
Understanding of database security, availability, scalability, and disaster recovery.
Ability to work with distributed/global teams in a large enterprise environment.
Strong architecture documentation and technical communication skills.
Preferred Skills
Experience with COBOL, JCL, or mainframe environments.
Exposure to cloud database platforms and cloud modernization.
Experience with automated migration and data-conversion tools.
Knowledge of PostgreSQL performance tuning and optimization.
Experience working in Agile/Scrum or large-scale transformation programs.
