Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs & Student Success provides leadership and oversight for academic affairs, student recruitment, progression, retention, completion, academic program quality, and student success initiatives within the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Position Description:
Seattle University invites applications to fill a new Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs & Student Success position (12-month staff). We seek an enthusiastic, dynamic, thoughtful individual whose primary responsibilities are to lead and oversee activities related to academic affairs; student recruitment, progression, retention, and completion; and compliance with student-related policies, procedures, and expectations.
The Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs & Student Success must be committed to an executive leadership role that develops strategic ideas, makes organizational-level decisions, implements policies and procedures, and executes and evaluates initiatives that all contribute to student academic success and an overall positive student experience. They must be innovative, creative, collaborative, communicative, and transparent, valuing and encouraging the pursuits and contributions of a wide variety of faculty colleagues across multiple disciplines.

The College of Nursing and Health Sciences currently houses academic programs that lead to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Doctor of Nursing Practice, a Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Ultrasound, a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, and a Master of Science in Kinesiology; and is positioned for growth to offer academic training programs in other health-related disciplines and professions in line with the goals of Seattle University’s Reigniting Strategic Directions.

Primary Responsibilities
Serve as liaison to academic affairs-related University-level units (e.g., Office of the Registrar, Office of the Provost, Graduate Studies, Student Success) in support of the College's academic programs and operations, including the execution of academically relevant policies and procedures.
Oversee the exploration and development of new academic programs, including coordinating and assisting on workflows that take ideas throughout all stages/phases of the proposal process.
Collaborate with academic program leaders throughout the College, Dean’s Office, and University to monitor, evaluate, and uphold academic program quality in alignment with University, College, and external accreditation and regulatory expectations and standards.
Partner with campus units to organize and carry out student recruitment and admissions strategies, initiatives, and events with oversight of coordinating the College’s activities and participation.
Liaise with professional student advisors, faculty advisors, and University units/groups to develop and implement actions that facilitate robust student matriculation, progression, support, persistence, completion, and graduation while promoting positive student experiences and overall student welfare.
Facilitate student awareness and access to programs and services focused on student success and campus life.
Oversee and support student extracurricular activities and opportunities, including College-related student governance bodies, clubs, and organizations.
Promote and pursue opportunities for recognizing and highlighting student and academic programming excellence.
Manage and monitor, in partnership with other College administrators, student matters related to academic performance and standing, conduct, and well-being; including serving in a student advocacy role, as appropriate and when warranted.
Assist other College senior administrators (e.g., Dean, Assistant Dean for Accreditation and Regulatory Compliance, academic area leads) with tasks related to monitoring, documenting, and reporting indicators for academic program health and student-related outcomes to assure compliance with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
Earned graduate degree, preferably in a health-related field, from an accredited higher education institution.
Demonstrated successful leadership experience in academic administration in higher education.
Track record of program/project development, assessment, and continuous quality improvement.
Experience with program evaluation processes.
Commitment to promoting excellence, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in an institution of higher education.
Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, alumni, and external partners.
Understanding of current trends, issues, and best practices in higher education.
Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
If the applicant is a licensed healthcare professional, their license and/or certification must be current and unrestricted, and they must be eligible for licensure and/or certification in Washington state.
Experience in student advising, development, and mentorship in an institution of higher education.
Experience with grant writing and securing external funding for educational and training initiatives.
