Databricks Apps Developer (React)

About the Role
We partner with global enterprises to design and build large-scale data platforms that power the products and operations at the center of their business. This engagement is an enterprise data mesh on Databricks for a major US health insurer, spanning finance, membership, claims, and clinical data.
The goal is to turn governed data into products the business actually uses. The platform team is standardizing how data products are published, discovered, and subscribed to across the enterprise. Your job is the layer people touch: the applications that put those data products in front of business users.
What You'll Do
Build and ship Databricks applications with React front ends that let business users discover, explore, and act on governed data products.
Work with the UX/UI designer to turn designs into polished, usable interfaces, and push back when a design and the underlying data do not line up.
Build the backend services and APIs that connect your applications to Databricks, including SQL warehouses, Unity Catalog–registered data products, and downstream consumers.
Help design the consumption patterns (API, CLI, and GUI) that downstream AI and analytics applications will use to access data products.
Develop against synthetic and representative data first, then connect to production sources once access is granted, without rework.
Own CI/CD, monitoring, and the operational runbook for the applications you build.
Collaborate closely with data engineers on output schemas, data contracts, and pipeline dependencies.
Participate in discovery and use case sessions with client stakeholders, translating business needs into application scope.
What We're Looking For
5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong production experience in React and TypeScript.
Experience building APIs with modern programming languages such as TypeScript and Python.
Strong SQL and comfort working close to data: schemas, query performance, and the trade-offs of how an application reads from a warehouse.
Experience shipping applications end-to-end, including CI/CD, monitoring, and production support.
Ability to work from representative or mock data and design for a clean switch to production sources.
A skilled communicator who can work directly with client stakeholders, designers, and data engineers, and drive decisions in a multi-team environment.
Fluent English, both written and spoken.
Nice to Have
Hands-on experience with Databricks Apps, Unity Catalog, or Databricks SQL.
Experience building data discovery, catalog, or marketplace-style applications.
Background in healthcare or other regulated industries.
Familiarity with AWS, including services such as SageMaker or Bedrock.
Experience integrating AI-native tooling into engineering workflows.

Certifications covered. We pay the exam fee for any Databricks certification you want to take.
Our Process
A screening call, a technical interview, and a HackerRank assessment. The technical interview is a conversation rather than a whiteboard exam. We will ask you to walk through an application you shipped on top of a data platform, how you structured the frontend and backend, how you handled data access and performance, and what you would change. Relevant project experience matters more to us than certifications.
Salary
Salary range: $80,000 - $120,000 annually, with final compensation determined by your qualifications, expertise, experience, and the role's scope.
Location:
This is a fully remote position. This role is remote within the United States only. Candidates must reside in the United States while assigned to our client and be physically located within the United States when performing project work or accessing project systems or data. Availability to work overlapping Pacific, Central, or Eastern U.S. time zones.

Position Details
This is a full-time position requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
