About the Role
This role focuses on root cause analysis, engineering design, and manufacturing for aerospace hardware. You’ll gain hands-on ownership of mechanical systems and see designs progress from concept to physical hardware on the factory floor.
You’ll work on highly iterative mechanisms and precision structures while collaborating with mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, and test engineering teams.
What You'll Do
• Support the design, analysis, and testing of electromechanical actuators (EMAs) and pneumatic actuator systems for aerospace applications
• Create CAD models, drawings, and documentation for actuator components and subassemblies
• Perform preliminary engineering calculations and simulation support for actuator performance, loads, and kinematics
• Participate in hardware builds and testing, including setup, data collection, and post-test analysis
• Troubleshoot actuator performance and integration issues and contribute to root cause analysis
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, and test engineering teams
• Design and develop parts, assemblies, and systems from concept through initial release
• Work with machined metallic components, sheet metal, composites, formed panels, and other hardware
• Make design-for-manufacturing decisions in coordination with manufacturing engineering
• Perform packaging assessments, resolve interferences, conduct tolerance stack analyses, and validate hardware stacks and fastener selections
• Support BOM and configuration management across multiple vehicle systems
• Create and release engineering drawings, including GD&T, following design reviews
Required Qualifications
• Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline
• Hands-on experience with mechanical design, prototyping, or analysis of structural/mechanism components
• Familiarity with CAD tools such as NX, SolidWorks, CATIA, or Fusion 360
• Exposure to FEA or engineering programming languages such as Python or MATLAB
• Strong interest in aerospace hardware, including actuators, linkages, latches, or deployable structures
• Experience working on an engineering team or project involving the design and construction of hardware
• 1–2 years of established CAD experience
• Understanding of fundamental engineering principles and their application to design decisions
• Ability to work with large assemblies and manage large BOMs
• Collaborative mindset and ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment
• Excitement to work on rockets and real-world hardware
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with NX and basic drafting practices
• Programming or scripting experience with Python, MATLAB, or similar tools
• Exposure to FEA or simulation tools for structural or thermal analysis
• Hands-on experience with prototyping, machining, or test-lab equipment
• Experience working on a rocket/aerospace team
• 1+ year of experience with NX/Teamcenter PLM
• 1+ year of experience with GD&T and engineering drafting
