Mechanical Engineer, Product Design

Cobot is looking for a Mechanical Engineer, Product Design to design and deliver the electromechanical systems at the heart of Proxie. You will own mechanical design from concept through test across both commercial and specialized robot development, creating hardware that is robust, manufacturable, thermally sound, and field-ready.

This role is located onsite at our Santa Clara, CA headquarters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop system-critical mechanical hardware, including structures, enclosures, electromechanical packaging, thermal management, and environmental protection.
- Collaborate with hardware, safety, test, manufacturing, and supplier teams to translate product and engineering requirements into robust mechanical designs.
- Own designs from analysis and CAD through prototype build, validation, root cause, and design iteration.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
- 3+ years of hands-on mechanical product design experience.
- Proficiency in mechanical CAD; SolidWorks experience is preferred.
- Experience designing complex electromechanical systems, assemblies, enclosures, or mechanical packaging.
- Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, including materials, tolerances, GD&T, and structural and/or thermal design.
- Experience taking hardware through prototyping, testing, troubleshooting, and design iteration.
- Highly motivated teammate with excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Enjoy working in a fast-paced, collaborative, and dynamic startup environment as part of a small team.
- Willing to occasionally travel.
- Due to the scope and responsibilities of this role, candidates must meet all U.S. person status requirements at the time of hire and maintain such status throughout their employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design.
- Experience designing rugged industrial equipment, robotics, material-handling equipment, outdoor electromechanical systems, or other complex electromechanical products.
- Experience with environmental sealing, ingress protection, thermal management, or environmental validation such as temperature, shock, vibration, or thermal cycling.
- Experience with FEA, CFD, or other engineering analysis tools.
- Experience designing hardware for hazardous locations, explosion-protected equipment, or other highly regulated industrial environments.
- Familiarity with hazardous-location standards such as Class/Division, IECEx/ATEX, IEC/UL 60079, or UL 1203.
- Hands-on experience with prototyping, fabrication, and shop tools.
The annual base salary range for this position is $190,000 - $210,000 base plus equity and comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision plans, 401(k) plan, unlimited paid vacation time, paid sick leave, and parental leave. Our salary ranges are determined by role and experience level. The range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the noted geographic area. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
