Role Description
We are looking for a skilled and analytical Technical Business Analyst to join our growing team in Christchurch. In this role, you will work directly with clients, including their business stakeholders and IT teams, to understand business needs, clarify technical requirements, and translate them into clear specifications, user stories and data models for our delivery team. You will collaborate closely with our architects, engineers and project managers to ensure solutions are well-defined, feasible, and aligned with client business goals throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
This is a hybrid position, with 4 days per week based at our Christchurch office or on client site (where applicable) and flexibility to work remotely for the remainder.
Key Responsibilities
• Elicit, analyse, and document business and technical requirements from clients, including their business stakeholders, subject matter experts and IT teams
• Translate business requirements into detailed functional specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, and process or data flow diagrams
• Work closely with our architects, engineers and delivery managers to ensure client requirements are technically feasible and correctly implemented
• Facilitate client-facing requirements workshops with clients, including their business stakeholders, subject matter experts and IT teams, as well as backlog refinement and sprint planning sessions with our delivery team
• Map current and future state business processes, identifying gaps, risks, and opportunities for improvement
• Analyse system integrations and data flows between internal systems and third-party platforms via APIs and middleware
• Support UAT planning and execution, including writing test scenarios and validating delivered solutions against requirements
• Produce clear documentation, including process maps, requirements traceability matrices, and solution design documents
• Act as a liaison between clients, including their business stakeholders, IT teams, product owners and our delivery team throughout the project lifecycle
• Contribute to continuous improvement of BA practices, tools, and delivery standards
Required Experience & Skills
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Business Analyst / Functional Consultant in a technical or software delivery environment
• Proven ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile/Scrum delivery methodologies
• Experience working with APIs, system integrations, and data mapping between platforms
• Working knowledge of SQL for data analysis and querying
• Familiarity with requirements management and traceability
• Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, API specifications, and data schemas
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, including their business stakeholders and IT teams, as well as our architects, engineers and project managers
• Self-directed and organised, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred Certifications
Certifications are not mandatory, but the following are highly regarded:
• IIBA certification (e.g. ECBA, CCBA, or CBAP)
• Microsoft certifications relevant to solution delivery, such as Power Platform Fundamentals, Azure Fundamentals, Azure Data Fundamentals, Power BI Data Analyst Associate, or Power Platform Functional Consultant Associate
• Business Analyst-relevant platform certifications, such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 Fundamentals, HubSpot CRM or Sales Software certifications, or Salesforce Business Analyst certifications
• Relevant certifications in delivery frameworks and/or methodologies.
Desirable Experience
• Background in a professional services environment
• Exposure to CRM platform implementations (e.g. HubSpot, Salesforce)
• Familiarity with reporting or BI tools
• Basic scripting or coding literacy (JavaScript, Python, or similar) for technical discussions with engineers
• Experience mentoring junior Business Analysts
