Software Engineer Manager (Remote)

## About the Role
SherlockTalent is seeking a Senior / Mid-Senior Backend Dev & Infrastructure DevOps Engineer for a 100% remote, Miami-based contract role. This position combines backend and serverless data engineering with cloud infrastructure ownership, covering the data-access layer, authentication, containerization, load balancing, deployment, observability, and resilience.
Working with the Lead Full-Stack Cloud Architect, you will implement the persistence and data-access layer according to architecture decisions and help build cloud infrastructure designed around a 99.95% uptime target, with a potential path toward 99.99% uptime.
## Key Responsibilities
* Build and maintain serverless backend functions using AWS Lambda or Azure Functions.
* Implement the data-access and persistence layer for per-client databases.
* Work with MongoDB and/or SQL databases according to architecture requirements.
* Use cloud-provider native APIs for data access.
* Implement authentication and authorization.
* Enforce data silos so that one client's data path cannot access another client's data.
* Develop containerization strategies using Docker, ECS, EKS, or Azure equivalents.
* Configure load balancing for individual client environments where required.
* Build and maintain CI/CD processes.
* Implement observability and monitoring capabilities.
* Engineer failover and resilience to support a 99.95% uptime target.
* Evaluate architecture and infrastructure tradeoffs related to higher availability and a potential path to 99.99% uptime.
* Support multi-tenant cloud deployments.
* Work across backend development, data infrastructure, and cloud infrastructure responsibilities.
## Required Qualifications
* 6+ years of backend and/or infrastructure engineering experience.
* 2+ years of production experience building on AWS Lambda or Azure Functions at volume.
* Hands-on production experience with container orchestration.
* Strong programming experience in Java, Python, or Go.
* Experience with both document databases, such as MongoDB or DynamoDB, and relational SQL databases.
* Experience with AWS or Azure load balancing.
* Experience with multi-tenant deployments.
* Financial-services or other high-compliance backend/infrastructure experience.
* Experience owning an uptime SLA in the 99.9%–99.99% range.
* Ability to explain architecture tradeoffs associated with different availability levels.
* Node.js is explicitly not the target technology for this role.
## Work Arrangement
* 100% remote.
* Miami-based role.
* 12+ month contract with an engagement of 1+ year.
* Reports to the Lead Full-Stack Cloud Architect.
