About the Role
We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join Vortech's founding engineering hub in Hyderabad. You will work closely with senior engineers and engineering leadership to design, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs.
We are open to engineers with strong hands-on experience in either Java/Spring Boot or Node.js/TypeScript who have a solid foundation in backend engineering and are eager to grow in a modern, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs and backend microservices using Java/Spring Boot or Node.js/TypeScript.
Write clean, maintainable, scalable, and well-tested code following established coding standards and design patterns.
Participate in sprint planning, task estimation, code reviews, and technical discussions.
Own sprint-level deliverables, communicate progress clearly, and identify technical risks and dependencies early.
Work with PostgreSQL/MySQL, including SQL queries, schema design, indexing, and query optimization.
Develop and maintain unit and integration tests to ensure code quality and platform stability.
Collaborate with QA, DevOps, and senior engineers on CI/CD, Docker, and production deployments.
Troubleshoot bugs, production issues, and performance bottlenecks.
Contribute to continuous improvements in backend architecture, reliability, and engineering practices.
RequirementsMust Have
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
2–4 years of hands-on backend software engineering experience.
Strong experience in either Java/Spring Boot or Node.js/TypeScript.
Good understanding of REST APIs, Object-Oriented Design, Data Structures, Algorithms, and Computer Science fundamentals.
Practical experience with PostgreSQL or MySQL, including schema design, indexing, and query optimization.
Experience with unit and integration testing frameworks.
Experience with Git/GitHub/GitLab and relevant build/package management tools.
Basic understanding of Docker and CI/CD.
Strong problem-solving skills and an execution-focused mindset.
Good verbal and written English communication skills.
Java Track
Strong proficiency in Java 11/17+ and Spring Boot.
Experience with JUnit 5 and Mockito.
Familiarity with Maven or Gradle.
Exposure to Spring Data JPA / Hibernate.
Basic understanding of backend logging frameworks such as SLF4J, Logback, or Log4j2.
Node.js Track
Strong proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript.
Hands-on experience with NestJS, Express.js, or Fastify.
Experience with Jest, Mocha, or Supertest.
Familiarity with Prisma or TypeORM.
Experience with npm, yarn, or pnpm.
Familiarity with structured logging/error handling tools such as Pino or Winston.
Nice to Have
Experience with microservices architecture.
Exposure to Kafka, RabbitMQ, NATS, or WebSockets.
Familiarity with Redis and API Gateways.
Basic understanding of OAuth2, JWT, webhooks, or API security.
Exposure to AWS, Azure, GCP, Docker, or Kubernetes.
Understanding of event-driven architecture and asynchronous processing.
Exposure to ReactJS or full-stack development.
Familiarity with enterprise SaaS concepts such as multi-tenancy and integrations.

Work arrangement
No
