Engineer - Maintenance (Equipment)

Job Summary
The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, safety and performance of production equipment, machines, jigs and fixtures within an assigned production area.
The position owns maintenance performance indicators, drives continuous improvement initiatives to reduce equipment downtime, develops maintenance standards, and serves as a technical escalation point for complex equipment issues beyond technician capability.
The role also contributes to a designated Technology Cluster and owns at least one horizontal maintenance topic relevant across all customer areas, such as Preventive Maintenance, Spare Parts Management, or Predictive Maintenance.
The engineer needs to coordinate resources and work closely with Production, Quality, Safety, Facility/Contract Management and support department KPI achievement.
Job Scope
1. Equipment Reliability & Maintenance Excellence
Drive equipment reliability, availability, and maintenance performance for assigned production areas.
Monitor, analyze, and improve key maintenance KPIs such as MTBF, MTTR, MME/100hrs, equipment availability, and OEE.
2. Technical Troubleshooting & Problem Solving
Lead complex troubleshooting activities for equipment breakdowns and recurring technical issues.
Serve as technical escalation point for equipment breakdowns and complex machine issues that cannot be resolved by maintenance technicians.
Conduct structured root cause analysis, provide technical guidance to maintenance teams, and implement sustainable corrective actions to improve equipment robustness and operational stability.
3. Preventive Maintenance, Asset & Spare Parts Management
Define, develop, and continuously improve preventive maintenance strategies, maintenance standards, and asset care practices.
Determine maintenance intervals, inspection requirements, replacement frequencies, and maintenance standards based on machine performance and reliability data.
Regularly review and optimize PM effectiveness to achieve maximum equipment availability at reasonable maintenance cost
Establish effective spare parts strategies, optimize inventory levels, and ensure critical resources are available to support equipment reliability and business continuity.
Support implementation of predictive and condition-based maintenance approaches where applicable.
4. Reliability & Continuous Improvement Projects
Identify and drive reliability improvement opportunities through maintenance performance analysis, downtime reduction initiatives, and equipment enhancement projects.
Support equipment upgrades, modernization activities, and maintenance excellence programs to improve overall equipment effectiveness and cost efficiency.
5, Technology & Functional Ownership
Actively contribute to assigned technology clusters and serve as the owner of designated maintenance-related topics across production areas.
Develop technical standards, best practices, performance indicators, and improvement roadmaps to drive alignment, capability development, and operational excellence.
6. Competency Development & Knowledge Transfer
Support the development of maintenance capabilities through technical coaching, training, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing activities.
Prepare and maintain maintenance procedures, troubleshooting guidelines, and technical documentation to strengthen organizational competency and problem-solving capability.
7. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Operational Support
Collaborate closely with Production, Process Engineering, Quality, and other stakeholders to support operational performance and continuous improvement objectives.
Act as the maintenance representative in technical discussions, improvement initiatives, and customer-focused activities to ensure equipment performance meets business requirements.
8. Additional Responsibilities
Perform any other duties and responsibilities assigned by the immediate superior as required.
Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Electrical, Electronic Engineering, or an equivalent discipline.
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in maintenance engineering, reliability engineering, equipment engineering, or manufacturing environment.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and technical problem-solving capabilities with a systematic approach to identifying and resolving equipment-related issues
Knowledge and experience in maintenance and reliability methodologies such as: RCA / 5 Why / Fishbone Analysis, MTBF / MTTR Analysis, FMEA, Preventive Maintenance Systems, Spare Parts Management, OEE Improvement, Reliability Engineering Principles.
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional improvement initiatives and manage projects independently.
Capable of coaching, mentoring and developing maintenance technicians through structured training, technical guidance and knowledge transfer.
Good command of English and Bahasa Malaysia, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Self-motivated, able to work independently, and proficient in Microsoft Office applications and maintenance management systems.
Knowledge of Power BI and data analytics tools, with the ability to transform maintenance and reliability data into actionable insights for performance monitoring and continuous improvement.
