Position Summary
Level: Lead Managed Services Engineer II
Deloitte is seeking a Lead Managed Services Engineer II to provide technical leadership for complex mainframe engagements, with accountability for architecture, delivery quality, and technical outcomes. In this role, you will lead distributed teams across onsite and offshore locations, guide solution design and execution, and serve as a senior technical contact for client stakeholders. You will also help strengthen team capability by mentoring developers, consultants, and analysts while supporting mainframe modernization efforts across the engagement.
Work you'll do
As a Lead Managed Services Engineer II on the Engineering as a Service team, you will be responsible for
Key Responsibilities
Own end-to-end operational health of Java-based applications (production support, monitoring, incident/problem management)
Manage a team of Java developers, support engineers, and SREs; handle staffing, performance reviews, and capability development
Drive SLA/OLA adherence for incident resolution, change management, and release deployment
Partner with development teams to ensure operational readiness of new Java releases (code quality, logging, monitoring hooks, rollback plans)
Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for major incidents and drive permanent fixes
Oversee capacity planning, performance tuning, and JVM/application-level optimization
Manage vendor/third-party support relationships where applicable
Own operational metrics reporting (uptime, MTTR, ticket volume/trends) to leadership
Drive automation initiatives to reduce manual operational effort (CI/CD, monitoring, self-healing scripts)
Ensure adherence to security, compliance, and audit requirements for production systems

Engineering as a Service provides complete design, implementation, and technology operations, leveraging our core engineering expertise. We transform engineering teams, modernize technology, and deliver complex programs with a product engineering approach. Our flexible delivery models—traditional teams, pools, or pods—are tailored to each client's needs, offering engineering-led advisory, implementation, and operational capabilities to accelerate innovation.
Location: Gurgaon/Pune/Bengaluru/Hyderabad/Chennai/Kolkata
Shift Timings: 11 AM to 8 PM and 2 PM to 11 PM
Qualifications
Required Technical Skills
10+ years of experience with 2+ years of experience in a technical lead
Strong hands-on background in Java / J2EE, Spring/Spring Boot, and related frameworks
Working knowledge of application servers (Tomcat, JBoss, WebLogic, etc.)
Experience with monitoring/observability tools (AppDynamics, Dynatrace, Splunk, ELK, Grafana/Prometheus)
Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps)
Understanding of databases (Oracle/PostgreSQL/MySQL) and SQL performance tuning
Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) is a plus
Familiarity with ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change Management)
Required Managerial Skills
Proven experience managing technical teams (5+ direct/indirect reports)
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills — comfortable presenting to senior leadership/clients
Experience running operational governance (SLA reviews, RCA reviews, steering calls)
Budget/resource planning experience is a plus
