Payroll Specialist - Balkans, Turkey & Israel

We are looking for an experienced, detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to coordinate payroll operations across Bulgaria, Serbia, Romania, Turkey, and Israel. Working closely with our global payroll provider, local HR teams, Finance, and other stakeholders, you will help ensure payroll is accurate, compliant, and delivered on time. This role is ideal for someone who can confidently manage multiple payroll cycles, country-specific requirements, and competing deadlines in an international environment.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Coordinate monthly payroll processing across the assigned countries in partnership with our global payroll provider.
Manage payroll calendars and ensure all inputs, reviews, approvals, and deliverables are completed on time.
Collect and validate payroll data, including new hires, terminations, compensation changes, bonuses, commissions, benefits, leave, overtime, and deductions.
Review payroll calculations and reports, investigate discrepancies, and coordinate corrections before final approval.
Manage off-cycle payments, termination payments, adjustments, and other exceptional transactions.
Serve as the primary HR contact for the payroll provider, coordinating questions, escalations, and issue resolution.
Maintain accurate payroll-related employee data in Workday and reconcile it against provider records and payroll outputs.
Perform payroll reconciliations and controls to ensure data accuracy and compliance with local employment, tax, and social security requirements.
Monitor relevant legislative changes and partner with HR, Finance, Legal, and external advisers on country-specific requirements.
Respond to payroll questions from employees and internal stakeholders and resolve issues promptly and professionally.
Maintain payroll records, process documentation, and audit trails while protecting confidential employee information.
Support payroll audits, reporting, process improvements, automation, and regional or global payroll projects.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
At least three years of experience in payroll, HR Operations with significant payroll responsibility, or a related role.
Hands-on experience coordinating payroll processes; multi-country payroll experience is strongly preferred.
Experience working with an external or global payroll provider.
Strong understanding of payroll controls, reconciliations, data validation, and compliance.
Experience using Workday or another major HRIS; Workday experience is preferred.
Strong Excel skills and confidence working with large volumes of payroll and employee data.
Excellent attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple payroll calendars, priorities, and deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; additional relevant languages are a plus.
High degree of discretion when handling confidential employee and compensation information.
Payroll knowledge in two or more of the assigned countries is a strong advantage.
