The impact you’ll make
As a Product Safety Engineer at Lam Research, you will independently drive product safety activities for semiconductor capital equipment. You will work directly with design engineering, manufacturing, and field teams to ensure safety requirements are defined, implemented, and sustained throughout the product lifecycle.
This role requires strong systems-level thinking—analyzing complex equipment, identifying hazards, and driving design improvements that protect personnel, the environment, and the system. You will apply industry standards and regulatory frameworks to ensure products meet global safety requirements while aligning with customer expectations.
What You’ll Do
Independently perform system-level hazard analysis and risk assessments, and drive implementation of mitigation strategies
Apply and interpret industry and regulatory requirements such as SEMI S2, CE Marking directives, and NFPA standards to support product compliance and certification
Identify design risks across electrical, mechanical, chemical, and ergonomic domains, and partner with engineering teams to resolve them
Participate in and influence design reviews to ensure safety requirements are incorporated early and effectively
Resolve product safety issues from internal reviews, field feedback, and third-party evaluations
Interface with third-party certification agencies to support safety assessments and closure of findings
Review and develop maintenance and service procedures to ensure safe operation and servicing of equipment
Partner with account teams and field organizations to support customer confidence in product safety
Reviews Engineering Changes and Problem Reports from safety standpoint to recommend preventive actions for safety hazards
Collaborates with India and US-based Mechanical, Electrical and Product Engineers for safety and design changes
Supports SEMI and other 3rd party safety evaluation and certifications
Who We’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
5–10 years of experience applying safety standards and hazard analysis in semiconductor capital equipment or similar complex large equipment systems
Demonstrated ability to independently analyze systems and identify hazards across electrical, mechanical, and chemical domains
Experience working with third-party certification bodies and driving closure of compliance gaps
Proficient in equipment and personnel safety requirements to evaluate:
Structural, vacuum and pressure loads, ergonomic, thermal, flammability, service, component layout/spacing, gas cabinet containment/exhaust, labeling, manuals/procedures, electrical/interlocks, hoists/lifts, chemistry and other considerations
Experience of capital equipment or similar industry in the role of systems safety Engineer, for e.g., chemical process, medical instrumentation, automotive, aircraft, etc.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with a track record of success in a cross-functional, multi-national work environment.
Demonstrated leadership skills in decision making and problem solving in absence of complete or accurate data.
Knowledge in reading and understanding Electrical Schematics, Interconnects, System Layouts, Mechanical drawings, Plumbing and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID’s), Service and Maintenance procedures
Knowledge in Safety testing methods (Electrical testing/Industrial Hygienic/Ergonomic evaluation)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in semiconductor capital equipment safety
Strong knowledge of SEMI S1, S2, S6, S8, S6, S10, S13, S14 guidelines
Experience with CE Marking, NFPA 79, and global regulatory requirements
Experience identifying hazards during maintenance and service activities
Experience driving safety issues to resolution across multiple stakeholders
Experience in working with cross-disciplinary teams (including mechanical, electro-mechanical, software, process, manufacturing engineers) for major projects.

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
