CQI Senior Data Analyst

The CQI Senior Registry Data Analyst serves as a technical and operational leader responsible for the design, development, implementation, and optimization of registry databases, data collection systems, websites, reports, and workflows that support quality improvement initiatives across Michigan. Working with limited supervision, this role partners with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the collection of accurate, high-quality data that drives improvements in patient care and outcomes.
This position serves as the subject matter expert for registry data collection processes, database functionality, reporting, and workflow design. The Senior Registry Data Analyst also provides leadership, mentoring, and training to Registry Data Analysts and other stakeholders while supporting strategic data initiatives and continuous process improvement.
Data Collection, Workflow Design & System Development
Lead collaborative stakeholders, including Coordinating Center staff and participating members, in the design and improvement of data collection workflows.
Evaluate database and website functionality and recommend enhancements to improve data capture, efficiency, and user experience.
Translate business and stakeholder requirements into technical specifications for database, reporting, and workflow solutions.
Design, develop, test, implement, and maintain database applications, web-based tools, and workflow enhancements.
Support data collection initiatives for quality improvement activities, research studies, and pilot projects.
Create and maintain training materials, documentation, and operational procedures.
Train and support over 100 internal and external users on database functions, reporting tools, and data collection processes.
Maintain detailed documentation of system functionality, report logic, and programming specifications.
Serve as a mentor and technical resource to team members and other data users.
Conduct site visits to hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, and physician practices to evaluate workflows and identify opportunities for process improvements.
Function as the primary resource for troubleshooting database, workflow, and data collection issues.
Data Quality & Database Management
Develop and implement strategies to ensure data accuracy, consistency, completeness, and integrity.
Establish and maintain quality assurance processes for data collection and reporting.
Identify trends, anomalies, and potential data quality issues and implement corrective actions.
Manage database access, security, and user permissions in accordance with organizational policies.
Perform investigative data analyses to identify unusual data entry patterns and support auditing activities.
Recommend and lead data cleanup and validation initiatives.
Data Strategy, Analysis & Insights
Analyze structured and unstructured data to identify meaningful trends and actionable insights.
Collaborate with leadership and stakeholders to support strategic decision-making through data-driven recommendations.
Develop innovative approaches for leveraging data to achieve organizational goals.
Evaluate and implement new reporting tools, dashboards, and analytical methodologies.
Support recurring and ad hoc reporting needs across the collaborative.
Review data requests and ensure compliance with data governance standards and approved use policies.
Promote reproducible analytical practices through thorough documentation and quality control procedures.
Provide guidance to analysts regarding database structure, workflow considerations, and dataset interpretation.
Reporting & Website Management
Design, develop, and maintain updates to the collaborative's public-facing website.
Create reports, dashboards, and visualizations that effectively communicate performance metrics and quality improvement outcomes.
Present complex data in a format that is meaningful and accessible to diverse audiences.
Deliver scheduled and ad hoc reports to leadership, stakeholders, researchers, and collaborative members.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business, Health Services Administration, Healthcare Informatics, Computer Science, or a related field required.
Associate degree in Information Technology with six to eight years of directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
Experience
Five (5+) years of experience designing and implementing data collection systems for healthcare, research, or quality improvement initiatives.
Five (5+) years of SQL development and database management experience.
Five (5+) years of website development and maintenance experience.
Five (5+) years of project management experience.
Five (5+) years of experience with reporting and business intelligence tools.
Five (5+) years of healthcare-related experience.
Experience working with relational databases, data architecture, and data integration processes.
