Senior Robotic Systems Engineer

ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a foundational engineering position at an early-stage industrial robotics startup, where you will own the core robotics software stack for an intelligent robotic work cell built to automate demanding industrial tasks like surface finishing, welding, and coating. You will work closely with a small, ambitious team and have significant influence over architecture and engineering direction from day one.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Own and evolve the full robotics software stack for the work cell, from low-level control to high-level planning.
- Develop and optimize motion planning, trajectory generation, and closed-loop control for industrial robot arms.
- Integrate perception hardware, including cameras, force/torque sensors, and LiDAR, into real-time control loops.
- Implement industrial safety concepts and fail-safe behaviors.
- Lead on-site testing, calibration, and commissioning of robotic systems in real industrial environments.
- Drive architecture decisions and engineering best practices across the team.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 5+ years of hands-on robotics engineering experience with real robot hardware, not simulation only.
- Strong grounding in kinematics, dynamics, motion planning, and control theory.
- Proficiency in C++ and/or Python for robotics applications, ideally including ROS 2.
- Experience with industrial or collaborative robot arms (such as those from major industrial arm manufacturers) and associated end-of-arm tooling.
- Proven integration of vision and force/torque sensors into real-time robot control loops.
- Experience deploying robotic systems in real production or industrial environments.
- 3D CAD skills, with familiarity in SolidWorks and/or CATIA.
- Fluency in English; German is a plus.
- Eligible to work in Germany and able to commit to full-time on-site work in Munich.
- Nice to have: background in surface finishing, welding, or coating automation; machine vision or 3D perception; familiarity with industrial protocols such as EtherCAT or OPC-UA.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Estimated base salary in the range of EUR 75,000 to EUR 110,000 per year, plus meaningful equity participation. Visa sponsorship is not available.
LOCATION
On-site, five days per week in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. Remote work is not offered for this role.
