2027 Summer Intern, Transportation Planner (Arlington, VA)

ICF’s Transportation Line of Business specializes in addressing complex planning, policy, and program issues at the nexus of transportation and the environment, energy, and communities. ICF’s work focuses on integrated approaches that support sustainable transportation decisions, addressing mobility, safety, environmental, social, and economic effects of transportation. Our work includes strategic planning, research, policy analysis, outreach, training, and program evaluation for Federal, State, and local governments, including the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), the Transportation Research Board (TRB), State transportation and environmental agencies, and metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs). We specialize in developing multimodal transportation plans; conducting needs assessments; analyzing transportation system performance data; evaluating the impacts of infrastructure projects, programs, and government policies; developing technical assistance resources; and documenting best practices related to integrated planning, transportation operations, and the environment.
We are seeking a Transportation Planner Intern to support tasks related to transportation data analysis, research, planning studies, and related topics. This is an opportunity to contribute to an important mission and work on emerging transportation issues, and all while building a great career at ICF.
Our summer internship is full-time for 10-weeks beginning in early June and ending in early August. Work may be performed in a hybrid capacity from Arlington, VA (2x per week). At this time, we are unable to provide relocation nor housing assistance.
Primary Responsibilities:
Support drafts of project materials in collaboration with staff team members based on research of transportation-related topics.
Contribute to the development of innovative, accurate, timely, and high quality products and services
Provide meeting support, including preparing materials, or remote hosting and technical support through virtual platforms, taking notes, and assembling post-meeting summary documents.
Basic Qualifications
By start date at least 30 credit hours in transportation, environmental science, energy, public policy, or a related field
Preferred Qualifications
Completed bachelor’s degree and enrollment verification in master’s program preferably in transportation, environmental science, energy, public policy, or related field OR 9 credit hours completed in graduate level coursework preferably in transportation, environmental science, energy, public policy, or related field
Proficiency with word processing, presentation, virtual meeting software, and web applications (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.).
Interest in one of the following areas:
Transportation planning and policy
Transportation finance and funding
Transportation data analysis and visualization
Bot and Third-Party Applications

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:
$37,855.00 - $77,869.00
