Job Description:
Support Staff employees, as defined by the Full-Time Support Staff Collective Agreement, will be given first consideration.
This position is subject to the terms of the Full-Time Support Staff Collective Agreement.
Note: 1 vacancy available. This position is deemed a critical vacancy.
Payband: This position is paid at Payband H. $38.09 - $44.04 per hour.
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Why this Role is Important
Under the supervision of the Director, Library & Ancillary Operations, the incumbent is responsible for the programming, analysis of needs, designing, building and configuring applications and integrations for the Library & Ancillary Services. Provides systems expertise and support for open-access solutions and provides design, development and support for custom-developed solutions (i.e. databases). Works in collaboration with colleagues from Learning Systems Services and Enterprise Solutions.
How You’ll Make an Impact
System Analysis, Integrations, Application Design & Development
Analyzes processes, systems and applications to resolve problems and introduce enhancements
Reviews existing processes and develops an understanding of user requirements
Identifies alternative solutions and makes recommendations to Team Lead, OER Design Studio, Director, IT Manager, or end users to meet the requirements
Designs and develops open access learning applications and systems that are used in the teaching and learning environments
Works under the guidance of Senior Educational Technologists in Learning Systems Services on integrations related to the College’s Learning Management System (LMS)
Creates procedures to best design, write, test, debug, troubleshoot, and maintain the source code of open access applications
Collaborates with Learning Systems Services and Enterprise Solutions to support application integration with College systems and resources; ensures all integration code is reviewed by a Senior Programmer.
Project leadership for open access applications/systems projects
Collaborates extensively with end-users in requirements gathering, prototyping and release management
Programming and Code Review
Performs quality assurance by reviewing, testing, and approving system changes (code, configuration settings, scripts) in collaboration with Information Systems Services
Accountable for documenting activity, changes, and tasks in application life cycle management tools
Codes/Programs to approved specifications
Technical Support and Maintenance
Performs troubleshooting to isolate, diagnose and resolve technical issues
Works with Fanshawe technical staff to resolve complex issues involving multiple systems
Develops system documentation including operating procedures, maintenance procedures and system standards
Cross-Functional Support
Provides training to technical staff and non-technical staff on new systems and processes
Contributes to select projects, as determined jointly by department administrators with the Learning Systems Services team
Supports co-op students by advising and distributing work assignments
Performs other related duties as assigned
What You’ll Bring
Post-secondary 3-year diploma or degree in Computer Programmer/Analyst, Information Technology and/or related field
Minimum 5 years’ computer programming experience including at least three years experience leading projects
Minimum 5 years’ experience required in developing web-based systems using modern open source and Microsoft technologies including (ASP.NET, C#, .NET Core Valence, REST-based APIs) and LTI integrations
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Excellent understanding of databases and queries for efficiency and performance (SQL, MS SQL)
Extensive knowledge of open-source technologies
Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS) and Educational Technologies that are used in Student Services/Affairs
Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholder
Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
