About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

Business Development Director, Life Sciences
Remote in San Francisco Bay Area
Our client is an emerging life sciences technology company building a new commercial bridge between experimental biology and advanced artificial intelligence. The organization combines purpose-generated biological measurements, computational capabilities, and scientific expertise to help sophisticated research teams develop, test, and improve next-generation models and discovery programs. This is an opportunity to join at an early stage and take meaningful ownership of the commercial strategy, working directly with scientific and company leadership to turn differentiated technology into high-value partnerships across AI, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical R&D.
This Role Offers:
Direct access to experienced company leadership and scientific teams, with significant autonomy in developing strategic accounts.
Opportunity to commercialize differentiated measured biology assets alongside computational and model-focused solutions.
Flexible remote structure for candidates based in the San Francisco Bay Area, with periodic in-person collaboration.
Equity participation during an early stage of company growth, with compensation evolving as the business reaches key commercial and funding milestones.
Focus:
Build and advance a targeted commercial pipeline across advanced AI organizations, biotechnology companies, and pharmaceutical R&D teams.
Develop relationships with scientific and technical decision makers responsible for biological modeling, research data, drug discovery, and AI development.
Structure early commercial programs around custom biological data generation and other research deliverables tailored to customer requirements.
Translate complex offerings spanning biological data, model evaluation, and scientific collaboration into compelling business cases for technical buyers.
Negotiate commercial terms that protect long-term data value while creating practical paths for customers to access and use proprietary research assets.
Partner closely with scientific leadership to shape proposals, scope customer programs, and align technical capabilities with market needs.
Establish a repeatable business development motion that moves opportunities from initial engagement through letters of intent, funded programs, and longer-term relationships.
Represent the organization with credibility across AI and life sciences communities while gathering market intelligence that informs commercial priorities.
Skill Set:
Proven success closing complex commercial agreements involving biological data, scientific software, model access, evaluations, or funded research programs.
Established relationships with decision makers at advanced AI organizations, biotechnology companies, or pharmaceutical R&D groups, with the ability to open strategic conversations.
Working knowledge of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, dose response, potency, and mechanism of action, including their relevance to drug research.
Ability to discuss scientific simulation and molecular modeling with technical buyers and understand where computational approaches create value and where experimental evidence remains essential.
Experience commercializing multimodal biological datasets, such as imaging, sequencing, perturbation, or drug-response information, and communicating the value of matched experimental conditions.
Understanding of how training data, fine tuning, benchmarks, and evaluations support model development and how scientific data can contribute to those workflows.
Strong judgment around data licensing, nonexclusive access, field-of-use restrictions, and protection of proprietary datasets during complex negotiations.
Based in the San Francisco Bay Area and able to attend periodic in-person meetings, with an entrepreneurial approach suited to an early-stage environment.
