About the Opportunity:
The MEDICAL BILLING SPECIALIST role is focused on managing the full medical billing cycle to ensure accurate coding, timely claim submission, and effective reimbursement processes. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining compliance and optimizing revenue flow by handling coding, claims processing, payment posting, denial resolution, and collections within the remote Revenue Cycle Management team.
Responsibilities:
Review clinical documentation and assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes following coding standards and payer guidelines.
Process and submit insurance claims ensuring coding accuracy and compliance.
Verify claim accuracy before submission and resolve billing discrepancies.
Investigate and follow up on unpaid balances, underpayments, and outstanding claims.
Communicate with insurance carriers to resolve reimbursement issues and recover payments.
Manage appeals and reconsiderations through to resolution.
Accurately post insurance and patient payments.
Maintain detailed and timely account notations and patient billing records.
Stay updated on coding changes, payer policies, and regulations.
Collaborate with providers and staff to support compliant billing operations.
Assist with internal audits and implement best billing practices.
Adhere to procedures and HIPAA requirements; escalate issues as needed.
Complete additional assigned tasks.
Requirements:
Minimum of 3 years experience in medical billing and coding in a healthcare setting.
Preferably experienced in Sleep Medicine and/or Durable Medical Equipment billing.
Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS coding standards, billing workflows, and insurance claims.
Professional coding certification (CPC, CCS, RHIT, or RHIA) is advantageous.
Experience with private medical practices or outpatient clinics preferred.
High attention to detail and organizational skills.
Strong problem-solving skills for complex claim and reimbursement issues.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and manage priorities remotely.
Interest in sleep health and improving patient well-being.
Pay Range and Compensation Package:
$24.00 - $29.00 per hour depending on experience.
