We are seeking a Director of Fiscal Transparency to join our Office of Finance and Administration team at the Oregon Department of Education (ODE).
This position follows a hybrid work model. Onsite presence will be required when business or operational needs are best supported in person, such as collaboration, training, or work that requires access to onsite resources. This may involve in-person meetings, presentations to the legislature, or district visits. Travel is required, and the frequency of travel will vary and cannot be predetermined. A driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, a personal vehicle, or an alternative means of transportation are required.
This position is exempt from overtime and frequently exceeds a 40-hour work week, often extending into evenings and weekends. It may require extended hours during legislative sessions, audit cycles, or system implementation phases.
Employees approved to work remotely must have a reliable and secure internet connection and maintain a professional work environment that supports productivity. While working remotely, employees are expected to maintain the same level of performance, responsiveness, communication, and availability as they would in the office.
What you will do!
You will lead and manage the state's fiscal transparency initiatives, which are designed to provide the legislature, school districts, and the public with comprehensive access to financial data from Oregon’s public education system. This pivotal role involves overseeing accounting data integration, financial reporting, and audit alignment. The Director manages professional staff and collaborates with program leadership, IT teams, and district partners to ensure the development of accurate and accountable financial data systems, including dashboards and reporting tools. The work directly enhances the organization's commitment to transparency and accountability for all our stakeholders.
Typical duties include:
Leading Oregon's K-12 financial reporting and transparency strategy.
Directing financial systems modernization and data governance.
Leading staff, partnerships, and continuous engagement and improvement efforts.
A typical day balances strategic leadership, financial governance, project oversight, and stakeholder engagement and would likely include meeting with staff and project leads to review program on fiscal transparency initiatives, collaboration with internal Department teams and staff, guidance and collaboration with external partners and participation in leadership regarding strategy, outcomes and future plans.
