The Opportunity
Our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility is looking for a Mechanical Shift Fitter in our Slabmaking team based in Port Kembla. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.
At our Port Kembla Slabmaking department, we transform molten iron into steel slabs for domestic and international markets. The Slabmaking area includes the Basic Oxygen Steelmaking (BOS) Plant, Steel Treatment, Slab Caster, Slab Handling, Refractories and Slab yard, with this role forming part of a cross-functional maintenance team you will be responsible for ensuring these critical assets are maintained to the highest standards of safety, quality and reliability. In this hands-on role, you'll use your technical expertise to deliver key outcomes while making the safety of yourself and your colleagues a top priority.
This is a shift-based position working a 4-on, 4-off rotating roster of 12-hour day and night shifts, operating Monday through Sunday.
What Will You Do?
You will apply your technical expertise to ensure that all mechanical equipment is maintained, as well as assisting with the surrounding Slabmaking department requirements for maintained mechanical equipment. You will:
isolate equipment and perform maintenance and repairs
inspect quality critical equipment and fault find
resolve issues and fix any non-conformances
seek ways to continuously improve our maintenance strategies
provide feedback on equipment performance
attend to mechanical issues as first point of call
More About You
You will have a strong technical background with the ability to work effectively and flexibly in a team environment. You will also have:
mechanical fitting/machining trade qualification
experience within a maintenance function
experience working both independently and as part of a manufacturing team
strong attention to detail with the ability to resolve issues effectively and efficiently
a commitment to your own safety and wellbeing and care for others
