Back-End Developer – Fully Remote

About the Role
Our client is looking for a skilled Backend Developer to join their growing technology team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, maintaining and improving robust, scalable backend systems and APIs that support their applications and business operations.
This is a hands-on development role suited to someone who enjoys solving technical problems, writing clean and maintainable code, and working collaboratively within a remote environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop and maintain scalable backend applications and services.
Build and maintain RESTful APIs and backend integrations.
Develop clean, efficient and maintainable code.
Work with databases, including designing and optimising queries and data structures.
Integrate third-party APIs and external services.
Troubleshoot, debug and resolve backend issues.
Implement appropriate security, authentication and authorisation practices.
Collaborate with frontend developers, product teams and other technical stakeholders.
Participate in code reviews and contribute to development standards.
Write and maintain technical documentation where required.
Test, monitor and improve application performance and reliability.
Participate in the full software development lifecycle from requirements through to deployment and maintenance.
Identify opportunities to improve existing systems, processes and code.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum 2 years of hands-on Backend Development experience.
Strong experience with at least one backend programming language such as:
Python
Node.js / JavaScript / TypeScript
Java
C#
PHP
Go
Practical experience developing and integrating REST APIs.
Strong understanding of databases, preferably both SQL and/or NoSQL.
Experience with Git and version control.
Understanding of software development principles and best practices.
Experience working with debugging, testing and troubleshooting.
Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Advantageous
Cloud experience with AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
Docker and containerisation experience.
CI/CD experience.
Experience with microservices architecture.
Experience with authentication technologies such as OAuth or JWT.
Experience working with Redis or other caching technologies.
Automated testing experience.
Experience working within Agile/Scrum development environments.
Experience with AI integrations or AI-enabled applications.
