Apply your mechanical design expertise to help improve how AI understands complex CAD assemblies and real-world engineering decisions.
We’re sharing a remote contract opportunity for Senior Mechanical Design Engineers with strong parametric CAD skills and experience developing multi-part assemblies from concept. No previous AI experience is required.
Location: Remote
Role type: Contractor
Commitment: Approximately 15 hours per week
Pay: $40–$90 USD per hour

What you’ll do
• Explore complex mechanical assemblies to identify design intent, constraints, critical decisions and potential failure points.
• Develop challenging technical questions that test experienced mechanical engineering judgment.
• Validate answers directly against CAD models, documenting clear evidence and reasoning.
• Review AI-generated responses, identify errors in mechanical reasoning and recommend improvements.
• Refine questions that are ambiguous, too straightforward or cannot be answered reliably.
• Document edge cases and areas of disagreement to keep evaluations accurate and verifiable.
• Communicate findings clearly to support ongoing project improvements.
Preferred qualifications
• 5+ years of professional experience developing and overseeing multi-part mechanical assemblies from concept.
• Advanced proficiency in at least one major parametric CAD tool, such as SolidWorks, Creo, NX, CATIA, Inventor, Fusion, Onshape or Solid Edge.
• Strong understanding of design intent, assembly relationships, mechanisms and kinematics.
• Sound judgment in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance analysis.
• Experience teaching, mentoring, leading design reviews or coaching engineering teams.
• Experience in at least one relevant sector, including industrial machinery, automation, robotics, automotive, heavy equipment, aerospace, defence, medical devices, consumer products, or tooling and fixture design.
• Excellent written English and the ability to explain complex technical reasoning precisely.
Experience with FreeCAD, advanced tolerance analysis or formal design review leadership is a bonus.
