Hearings Lawyer, Refugee and Immigration (Part-time, Remote) Siddiky Law | Remote, Canada | Weekday mornings, about 4 hours a day $80,000 a year, part-time
Siddiky Law runs a heavy hearing calendar before the Immigration and Refugee Board: often two hearings a day, almost every day. We are looking for a lawyer to take our morning hearings and represent our clients with the preparation and care they deserve.
You will not start from a blank page. Our founder has built a full library of arguments for every type of case we handle, and he will train you on it personally.
What you will do
Appear at IRB hearings by Microsoft Teams, usually in the mornings.
Prepare each client for their hearing (about one hour of prep for every three hours in hearings).
Adapt the firm's written arguments to each file and argue them well.
Report outcomes and next steps to the case team the same day.
About you
A lawyer in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
Hearing or litigation experience, ideally in refugee or immigration matters. Strong advocates at an earlier stage are welcome; we train.
Calm and persuasive on your feet, and kind with clients who are going through the hardest moment of their lives.
Organised: you prepare properly and never walk in cold.
A second language such as Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Spanish or French is a strong plus.
Pay and schedule
$80,000 a year for about four hours a day, fully remote.
Weekday mornings. Starting in October, with a short period shadowing our founder's hearings first.
To apply, send your CV and a short note on a hearing you are proud of to Fardeen@mortarmetrics.com.
