An exciting opportunity exists for a Jetty Operations Manager (Jetty Controller) to lead the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of our Geelong Jetty, a critical asset supporting import and export activities for the Geelong Refinery and broader supply chain.
This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for managing a newly established jetty operations team, fostering a strong safety culture, and driving operational excellence across one of Australia's most significant energy infrastructure environments.
Responsibilities
Based at the Geelong Jetty in Corio, adjacent to the Geelong Refinery, you will lead a team of 15 employees and oversee daily operations across four berths, managing vessel loading and discharge activities from ship to shore through to refinery tanks and pipeline systems.
You will work closely with refinery operations, maintenance and asset teams, port authorities, shipping operators, and third-party stakeholders to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient marine operations while continuously improving business performance.
As the Jetty Operations Manager, you will:
Lead and manage all aspects of jetty operations, including import and export activities across four berths.
Ensure the safe and efficient loading and discharge of tankers from ship to shore systems and refinery infrastructure.
Coordinate vessel scheduling and operational activities with Geelong Port, shipping agents, and other jetty users.
Build, coach, and develop a high-performing team of Jetty Shift Leaders and Wharf Attendants.
Drive a strong Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) culture across all activities.
Ensure compliance with refinery management systems, marine terminal operating procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Support refinery maintenance and asset teams to safely execute maintenance activities on Viva Energy-owned jetty infrastructure.
Optimise vessel turnaround times and loading/discharge plans to minimise demurrage and maximise operational efficiency.
Support emergency response activities and provide specialist jetty expertise during incident management events.
Collaborate with Supply Chain, Marine, and Refinery Operations teams to standardise best practices and improve operational performance.
Coach and support Shore Officers in supervising ship-to-shore transfer operations and maintaining ongoing compliance requirements.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will bring strong leadership capability together with operational experience gained within marine terminals, refinery operations, petrochemical facilities, bulk liquids handling, pipeline operations, ports, or other high-hazard industries.
Ideally, you will have:
Experience as a certified Shore Officer or equivalent marine terminal operations role.
Demonstrated experience in tanker loading and discharge operations, bulk liquid transfers, pipeline operations, or related industrial environments.
Strong understanding of marine terminal safety, operational risk management, and regulatory compliance.
Experience leading frontline operational teams in a 24/7 industrial environment.
Ability to influence and coach stakeholders across multiple departments and organisations.
Strong commitment to safety leadership and operational discipline.
Proven experience managing competing priorities and delivering operational outcomes.
Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills.
A continuous improvement mindset with a focus on efficiency, reliability, and operational excellence.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
Refinery, oil and gas, petrochemical, bulk liquids, or port operations experience.
Certified Shore Officer (or capability to obtain certification).
Permit to Work and AGSI certification.
Oil Spill Response training (AMOSC or equivalent).
Emergency response and firefighting training within terminal, port, or industrial environments.
Experience conducting JHAs and risk assessments.
Knowledge of product quality control and testing requirements.
Strong systems capability, including SAP, JDE, tank monitoring systems, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and operational reporting tools.
