About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
Pay: $8-$10/hour
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Property Accountant to support the Brit Properties
industrial commercial real estate portfolio. The portfolio includes multiple property and ownership
entities, generally with only a few tenants per property. This role will own the recurring accounting
calendar, maintain accurate books in Yardi Breeze, and provide timely reporting and support to the
Controller.
This is not an entry-level role. Because the current team is new to Yardi Breeze, the successful
candidate must already be comfortable completing day-to-day property accounting and month-end
work directly in Yardi Breeze, troubleshooting issues, and recommending practical system
workflows.
What Success Looks Like
Own the recurring calendar and complete work accurately without repeated reminders.
Keep the Controller informed through concise status updates and raise potential delays
before a deadline is missed.
Investigate discrepancies independently, document what was reviewed, and bring forward a
recommended solution.
Handle both routine and time-sensitive work with a dependable, professional, and solution-
oriented attitude.
Follow each task through completion, including confirming that reconciliations, transfers,
payments, statements, and distributions were processed correctly.
Key Responsibilities
Yardi Breeze and Property Accounting
Maintain complete and accurate property- and entity-level accounting records in Yardi
Breeze, including general ledger activity, cash receipts, accounts payable, accounts
receivable, journal entries, accruals, prepaids, transfers, and supporting documentation.
Maintain and finalize bank registers for TIC (tenancy-in-common) and other entities.
Complete monthly bank reconciliations, promptly research outstanding or unusual items, and
ensure reconciling items are cleared.
Review the general ledger and supporting schedules for accuracy, completeness, proper
classification, and consistency across entities.
Maintain organized electronic support and a clear audit trail for all transactions and recurring
work.
System Transition and Process Ownership
Reconcile Sage-to-Yardi transfers associated with the 2026 system transition, including
opening balances and transaction-level detail.
Trace conversion differences to source support, prepare corrections, and maintain a clear list
of open and resolved items.
Help establish reliable Yardi Breeze workflows, checklists, and controls for the Controller and
broader accounting team.
Document recurring processes so another qualified team member can follow the work when
needed.
Reporting, Controls, and Communication
Prepare accurate property- and entity-level financial information, cash reports, and requested
supporting schedules.
Monitor deadlines, dependencies, approvals, and bank activity; follow up until each item is
complete.
Communicate questions clearly and professionally with the Controller, internal team
members, tenants, vendors, banks, payroll contacts, and other stakeholders.
Escalate material discrepancies, cash shortages, system issues, and control concerns
promptly, together with relevant facts and a proposed next step.
Support month-end, quarter-end, year-end, audit, tax, and special projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
At least 3 years of recent, hands-on property accounting experience; commercial or industrial
real estate experience is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated Yardi Breeze experience performing general ledger accounting, bank
reconciliations, AP/AR, journal entries, and financial reporting. Yardi Breeze experience is
required, not merely preferred.
Experience owning the monthly close for multiple properties or legal entities.
Strong understanding of accrual accounting, account reconciliations, cash management, and
financial statement preparation.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including lookups, SUMIFS, pivot tables, reconciliations, and
clear supporting schedules.
Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to explain accounting issues clearly and
concisely.
Strong organization, accuracy, follow-through, and the ability to manage overlapping
deadlines with limited supervision.
Ability to work an agreed schedule that provides sufficient overlap with U.S. business hours
for payroll, banking, and deadline-sensitive activities.
Bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant
experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Sage and accounting system conversions or data migrations.
Experience coordinating payroll and payroll funding through Paylocity or a similar platform.
Experience with investor distribution calculations, TIC entities, tenant statements, property
taxes, and insurance payments.
Experience supporting a U.S.-based real estate company in a remote accounting
environment.
