Staff iOS Engineer

About the Role
American Eagle Outfitters is seeking a Staff iOS Engineer to serve as the technical anchor for its iOS platform.
The position requires a systems-oriented engineer who can define scalable architecture, establish the long-term technical roadmap, solve difficult performance and concurrency problems, and mentor other engineers.
Deep architecture experience is imperative.
Key Responsibilities
Architectural Leadership
• Design and evolve scalable iOS architecture.
• Define architectural standards and patterns across the application.
• Determine appropriate use of SwiftUI versus UIKit.
• Guide modernization of legacy components.
Performance & Concurrency
• Lead implementation of modern Swift concurrency.
• Identify and eliminate memory leaks.
• Optimize main-thread performance.
• Design applications capable of maintaining performance as complexity increases.
Technical Strategy
• Partner with Product and Design to evaluate technical feasibility.
• Translate product concepts into scalable technical solutions.
• Mentor engineers and resolve complex technical disagreements.
• Conduct high-level architectural code reviews.
• Produce Technical Design Documents.
AI Engineering
• Define AI-assisted engineering workflows.
• Configure MCP servers.
• Design architectures that support AI agents and developer automation.
Testing
• Own end-to-end software quality.
• Establish automated and manual testing practices.

Requirements
• 8+ years of professional iOS engineering experience.

• Ability to influence across technical and nontechnical teams.
• AI workflow and MCP experience.
