Role Description The Marine Engineer role is a full-time, on-site position based in Mumbai. The role involves overseeing the operation, maintenance, and repair of marine machinery and systems, including engines, propulsion systems, and auxiliary equipment. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting inspections, troubleshooting technical issues, planning and supervising maintenance schedules, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations. Marine Engineers will prepare technical reports, maintain detailed records, coordinate with shipboard and shore-based teams, and support dry dock and repair activities as needed. The role also includes participating in performance optimization initiatives and contributing to continuous improvement of engineering processes and standards.
Qualifications
Strong foundation in marine engineering principles, including ship propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery, and marine electrical and control systems.
Experience with operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of marine equipment, preferably on commercial vessels or in a marine services environment.
Knowledge of applicable maritime regulations, classification society rules, and safety and environmental compliance standards.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, and specifications, and to prepare clear technical documentation and reports.
Effective problem-solving skills, with the capacity to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and implement practical solutions under time constraints.
Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on-board and on-shore.
Comfort with on-site and field work, including ship visits, yard work, and inspections, sometimes in demanding operational conditions.
Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Marine Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline; relevant sea-going or shipyard experience is highly beneficial.
Proficiency in using standard engineering tools, maintenance management systems, and basic office software for reporting and documentation.
Willingness to adhere to strict safety practices and participate in ongoing training and professional development in the marine industry.
