The Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for managing accounting and US tax compliance activities, including monthly close, financial reporting, reconciliations, payroll tax, and multi-state tax filings. The role requires hands-on experience with US accounting and tax compliance, including Forms 1120 and 1065, while supporting financial statement audits and resolving state and payroll tax notices. The role works closely with leadership and the external CPA to maintain accurate financial records, meet tax deadlines, and ensure compliance with US accounting and tax requirements.
Job Description
• Own the monthly close process, including accruals, deferred revenue, prepaids, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly US Accounting financial statements and lender reporting packages within required deadlines.
• Reconcile payroll and payroll taxes between the payroll system and general ledger.
• Maintain documented close checklists and written procedures for recurring accounting activities.
• Maintain a centralized filing calendar covering state, entity, tax type, and filing deadlines.
• Prepare and file multi-state sales/use and gross receipts tax returns and annual reports.
• Prepare US federal and state income and franchise tax returns, including Forms 1120 and 1065 and applicable multi-state apportionment.
• Prepare quarterly estimated tax calculations.
• Respond to and resolve state tax and payroll tax notices.
• Draft correspondence to tax agencies when required.
• Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for the annual financial statement audit.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for auditors and coordinate responses to audit requests.
• Support budgets, cash-flow forecasts, and ad hoc financial analysis for leadership.
• Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
• Support customer invoicing, accounts receivable, and collections as the role expands.
• Identify and communicate accounting or tax issues that require attention.
• Ensure recurring accounting and tax activities are completed accurately and on schedule.
• Maintain organized records and documentation for accounting, tax, and audit purposes.
Required Qualifications
• Has filed monthly or quarterly sales/use tax returns in multiple US states.
• Hands-on experience with monthly accounting and financial close activities.
• Experience managing monthly or quarterly US sales/use tax filings across multiple states.
• Experience preparing or supporting US federal and state income or franchise tax returns.
• Experience with accruals, deferred revenue, prepaids, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Experience reconciling payroll and payroll taxes with the general ledger.
• Demonstrates strong understanding of US Accounting and principles.
• Demonstrates strong attention to detail and ability to identify and raise accounting or tax issues.
• Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and maintain an organized tax filing calendar.
• Proven ability to work independently and take ownership of accounting and tax compliance activities.
• Clear and coherent both written and verbal communications skills in English.
Screening Criteria
• CPA, Chartered Accountant or equivalent national credential.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or any related field.
• Minimum of four (4) years at a US CPA firm or accounting services provider doing both monthly client accounting and US business tax work.
• Experience with Forms 1120 and 1065 and multi-state income or franchise returns, including apportionment.
• Experience in QuickBooks Online.
• Must have stable employment history.
