The Sr. Lead (Principal) Architect is a senior-level analytics support role responsible for supporting the governance, evolution, adaptation, and operational success of the enterprise analytics platform and related tools. This role provides inputs to strategic direction, technical guidance, and hand-on support to multiple business units and project teams that rely on the analytics platform and tools for reposting, insights and decision-making. The role also serves as secondary liaison between business stakeholders, data consumer, engineering teams, and governance functions.
As the secondary analytics authority, the Sr. Lead (Principal) Architect collaborates with stakeholders across the organization to understand analytics needs, serving as the subject matter expert (SME) to translate business requirements into scalable solutions, and deliver platform capabilities that enable consistent, reliable, and high -quality analytics outcomes. The role is responsible for managing the product backlog priorities for their assigned projects, ensuring strong delivery execution, and maintain high standards for data and analytics architecture.
The Sr. Lead (Principal) Architect will collaborate with the Analytics Support manager both long-term, strategic analytics initiative and tools as well as ad hoc requests ensuring that the platform remains stable, secure, and scalable while supporting the organization's evolving analytics requirements. The role requires leadership experience, stakeholder management, deep technical understanding of analytics and data architecture, and the ability to prioritize competing demands across multiple projects.
Essential Functions:
Lead and collaborate in managing the enterprise analytics support function, including ownership of the data and analytics platform, BI/Visualization tools, data preparation tools, reporting automation, and related analytics technologies.
Monitor departmental goals required to achieve the work, responsibilities and strategies of PJM, the division and department.
Foster relationships with other PJM departments and SMEs to ensure that the services provided by Analytics Support are meeting the needs of PJM.
Make recommendations to ensure department and support staff are well trained on current technologies and assist leadership in identify opportunities to develop new technology skills as needed or required within budgetary constraints.
Provide inputs for the analytics platform roadmap, prioritizing enhancements, upgrades, and new capabilities based on business needs, platform health and strategic priorities.
Serve as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert (SME) for projects and business units leveraging the data and analytics platform, providing guidance on architecture, design patterns, and best practices.
Mentor D&A Business Analyst resources, including assigning work, prioritizing tasks, setting performance expectations, coaching and supporting professional development and career growth.
Ensure consistency and standardization, reuse, and best practices across analytics solutions built on the D&A platform as well as other tools owned by analytics support, including requirements documentation, data definitions, semantic layer usage, dashboards and reporting.
Collaborate with enterprise architecture, data engineering, security, and governance teams to ensure analytics solutions meet compliance, security and data quality requirements, aligning solutions with broader technology strategy.
Oversee intake and triage of analytics requests, ensuring work is routed appropriately balancing data and analytics platform enhancements with continuous improvement and innovation while providing support for current and future analytics, reporting, and data integration needs.
Support / enable self-service analytics, including development of templates, reusable models, standardized dashboards, and training materials to increase adoption and reduce duplicate work.
Contribute in management of delivery of both large, multi-phase projects and ad hoc analysis requests, provide guidance on platform usage, design patterns, and integration approaches, coordinating across multiple project teams, managing dependencies and ensuring timely completion of deliverables.
Partner with project teams to understand requirements and translate them into scalable D&A platform-aligned solutions.
Review and approve analytics solutions design to ensure performance, scalability, security and maintainability.
Identify opportunities to generate project-specific solutions, driving adaptation by providing key inputs to the D&A adaptation strategy and communications.
Facilitate stakeholder alignment and prioritization, balancing competing demands and ensuring D&A platform roadmap supports enterprise objectives and project needs
Drive continuous improvement through feedback loops, post-implementation reviews, and adoption tracking ensuring the tools owned by the department including the D&A platform evolves to meet changing business needs from users and project teams.
Characteristics & Qualifications:
Required
Bachelor of Science, Business, Information Systems or Equivalent work experience
At least 8 years of experience leading development of information systems, advanced analytics enablement, business intelligence enablement, data engineering/architecture or related fields
At least 8 years of experience supporting or managing enterprise analytics platforms and BI tools such as Azure, Databricks, and Power BI
Demonstrated experience leading or managing a team of analytics professionals
Experience working in Agile, Scrum, or hybrid delivery environments Experience working with enterprise stakeholder and cross-functional teams including data engineering, IT, security, and business leadership
Ability to produce high-quality work products with attention to detail
Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment
Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis
Experience using verbal and written communications skills
Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (MS-Word, MS-Excel and MS-PowerPoint)
Preferred
MBA, Business Administration Masters or PhD degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Data Science, or a related field
Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions
Experience supporting any of PJM Committees
