Job description:
About Us
PA Logistics Group and PA Transport run freight brokerage, asset-based trucking, and supply chain consulting business. The business has grown faster than our financial systems. We need a seasoned freight accountant to build the reporting, planning, and accounting infrastructure we'll run on for years, and to wire it directly into how our operations work. We're on a mission to build a $200 million logistics company, and you can be an impactful team member on a mission with the company to build to the moon
What you'll own
Own the general ledger for both entities: journal entries, accruals, prepaids, intercompany activity, and adjustments
Run month-end and year-end close on a set calendar, with every balance sheet account reconciled and supported
Reconcile bank, credit card, AR, AP, factoring, and intercompany accounts every month
Run AP: carrier settlements, quick pay, factoring company payments, and vendor bills, with every payment matched to its load, rate confirmation, and POD
Run AR: customer invoicing, cash application, aging, collections, short pays, and chargebacks
Review accessorials, detention, lumper, TONU, and fuel surcharge charges for accuracy and backup before they're billed or paid
Account for freight claims, insurance recoveries, and disputed charges correctly
Verify every banking or remit-to change before it's processed. No exceptions.
Reporting and controls
Prepare monthly financial statements for each entity and on a consolidated basis: P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow
Report load-level and customer-level margin so leadership knows where we're making and losing money
Build cash flow forecasts tied to freight volume, payment terms, and carrier pay cycles
Clean up and maintain the chart of accounts so the numbers are consistent and comparable month to month
Set up internal controls and segregation of duties around payments, approvals, and banking
Keep documentation organized and audit-ready so every number traces back to the load, invoice, or settlement it came from
Work with our outside CPA on tax filings, 1099s, sales and use tax, and any outside audits or reviews
Systems
Work inside our TMS and accounting software to keep load, invoice, and settlement data in sync with the books
Define the accounting rules for how load, rate, invoice, and settlement data should post to the GL
Work with our engineering team to automate repeatable work like invoicing, carrier pay, and reconciliations
Test and sign off on the accounting side of any system change before it goes live
What you'll keep running
You'll own the books: daily AP and AR, monthly close, reconciliations, financial statements, forecasts, and audit and tax prep. You'll be the one telling leadership where we're making and losing money, and the one making sure those numbers are right.
****Requirements*****
10+ years of accounting experience
Freight, logistics, or transportation accounting experience is required. You know brokerage and carrier accounting, including carrier settlements, quick pay, factoring, accessorials, detention, fuel surcharge, and claims
Track record of building or overhauling reporting, close, or forecasting processes
Multi-entity accounting experience
Bachelor's in accounting or finance; CPA strongly preferred
Advanced Excel
Extremely detail-oriented: a number isn't done until it ties out
Can explain the numbers in plain English and push back when something doesn't add up
****Who should apply****
We are looking for someone who is an A player. If you are someone who has experience in the US logistics industry and are looking to align yourself with like-minded/motivated team members who are on a mission to grow a small start-up with a close lean team, this is the place to join. You will be able to expand your current roles, learn and take on new responsibilities and be part of a startup looking to grow!
We have a clear target: a $200 million logistics company. Getting there takes real financial infrastructure, and you'll be the one who builds it. You won't be watching from the sidelines. You'll be in the room for the big decisions, see the impact of your work as we grow, and be part of the team that takes us from where we are today to where we're headed. If you've wanted to help build something from the ground up and grow with it, this is it.
