The Game Server Engineer contract role is a remote position responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining backend services that support online gameplay and interactive experiences. Day-to-day tasks include configuring and monitoring game servers, optimizing performance and scalability, managing database integrations, and ensuring high availability of infrastructure. The engineer will diagnose and resolve server-side issues, implement logging and alerting, and collaborate with game designers, client engineers, and other team members to deliver smooth, secure, and responsive online features. This role also involves updating server environments, applying patches, and improving deployment pipelines to support rapid iteration and reliable releases.
Qualifications
Strong troubleshooting skills, including diagnosing and resolving server, network, and performance issues.
Experience working with databases and data storage solutions to support game state, player data, and analytics.
Background in infrastructure design and maintenance, including cloud services, containers, or orchestration tools.
Knowledge of operating systems, with practical experience configuring and managing Windows or similar server environments.
Proficiency in at least one backend programming language commonly used for game services (e.g., C#, Java, Go, Node.js, or similar).
Experience building and maintaining RESTful or real-time network APIs for multiplayer or connected applications.
Familiarity with security best practices for online services, including authentication, authorization, and data protection.
Ability to work independently in a remote, contract setting, communicate clearly, and collaborate across disciplines.
Prior experience with game server engineering, live operations, or online multiplayer systems is highly beneficial.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
