About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

Job Title: Community & Social Media Manager
Project: Clockwork – A Competitive Steampunk Multiplayer Word Game and future titles
Type: Independent Contractor (Deferred / Revenue-Linked Compensation)
Experience Level: Junior to Mid-Level (1–4 years of social media, community management, or related marketing experience preferred; strong demonstrated personal or volunteer results can substitute)
Location: Remote, United States only
Description
Are you confident in your social media and community-building ability and want to get in on a startup effort? Our first title, Clockwork—a steampunk multiplayer word game—has already launched on iOS and Android and will be ported to other platforms in the future. Clockwork already has monetization features (ads and a theme store) and we are preparing the groundwork for a subscription that hides ads and provides cosmetic bonuses. We are also near launching a social update that makes it easier for players to interact with one another and receive bonuses for inviting friends.
We will soon begin collaborative development of a digital version of a board game from a Texas-based independent developer that already has an established and growing audience. We are in talks with additional board game developers and, between original designs and partnerships, have no shortage of shorter-cycle projects aimed at building steady revenue.
As our Community & Social Media Manager, your primary focus will be building a consistent social presence and a healthy Discord community so we can reach more players and turn them into long-term fans. Supporting paid ad efforts, promoting creator partnership programs, and assisting with press or influencer outreach are secondary priorities that can expand as time and compensation allow.
This is a hands-on role. You will own our social channels and Discord, create engaging content, and help grow the audience around Clockwork and future titles. The starting expectation is approximately 5–8 hours per week on a flexible, self-directed schedule with weekly check-in meetings. As revenue grows and compensation begins, the time commitment is expected to increase while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Compensation & Roadmap
This is currently an unfunded startup, though we are actively seeking sources of funding to accelerate growth. Compensation is tied to revenue targets. As an independent contractor your pay will begin at $1,000 per month once the studio reaches approximately $7,000–$10,000 in monthly profit. At that point every team member receives the same starting contractor rate. Pay then increases at regular intervals as revenue grows until it reaches the target range for the position.
Target pay for this position is $50,000–$70,000 per year based on experience and performance. Strong performance can result in pay above the stated upper range. Early team members also receive first consideration for leadership roles as the studio expands.
When the studio transitions contractors to full-time employees, a $10,000 payment for fulfilling the contractor period will be granted along with the employment offer. Full-time employment will include benefits and potential bonuses for early contribution and studio performance. The full-time target pay range remains $50,000–$70,000 per year, with the possibility of exceeding it based on impact.
This is a remote U.S.-only position. When the studio becomes established, the goal is to open a physical studio location in Central Texas. Relocation assistance will be provided; relocation is strongly preferred at that stage.
Key Responsibilities
Primary focus (starting priority)
• Own and grow our presence across social platforms (X/Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and others as relevant).
• Build, moderate, and cultivate our Discord community and other player spaces; foster a welcoming, engaged culture.
• Create and schedule engaging content (posts, short-form video, graphics, developer updates, memes that fit Clockwork’s steampunk word-game voice and that of future projects).
Secondary / expanding priorities (as time and compensation allow)
• Develop content calendars aligned with feature releases, seasonal events, and paid ad campaigns.
• Support user acquisition efforts by coordinating organic social with our paid advertising.
• Promote and support our creator partnership programs (Xsolla webstore revenue-share opportunities and the in-game creator avatar/likeness program with permanent 30% share), including outreach and content that highlights participating creators.
• Monitor community sentiment, collect player feedback, and relay actionable insights to the development team.
• Plan and run community activations: contests, giveaways, AMAs, livestream support, and events that leverage the friend system and taunt features.
• Track key metrics (engagement, growth, sentiment, download/install impact where measurable) and report progress.
• Assist with press releases, media outreach, influencer relations, and press kit maintenance (strong plus).
Requirements
• Passion for video games, including genuine interest in word games, mobile multiplayer, or steampunk aesthetics.
• Proven experience managing social media accounts and/or online communities (gaming experience preferred; strong personal or volunteer results accepted).
• Strong written communication skills and ability to maintain a consistent, engaging brand voice.
• Comfortable creating or coordinating short-form video and visual content.
• Familiarity with Discord moderation and community tools.
• Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently in a remote startup environment.
• Must reside in the United States.
Strong Pluses
• Experience drafting or reviewing press releases and conducting media outreach.
• Influencer / content creator relations experience (especially useful for promoting our creator partnership programs).
• Familiarity with mobile free-to-play or live-service community practices.
• Basic analytics tools experience (native platform insights, simple dashboards).
• Interest in board-game-to-digital adaptations or the Texas indie game scene.
• Familiarity with a wide range of game genres.
Who am I?
I’m Jason Patterson, U.S.-based founder of Dolphin Entertainment, LLC and a Texas native. I previously ran an indie studio, launching a title before life events shifted my path. Since then I’ve had a book accepted for publication, engaged in various ventures, and worked with a startup creating human-authored, AI-powered interactive narratives. My passion for games brought me back to revive the studio with Clockwork. I foster a crunch-free, collaborative culture and am hands-on with design, UI, and direction. I have a human-first focus and believe in building the creativity and capability of human workers.
Why Join Us?
Clockwork is already live and will soon receive additional social features. You will have real ownership over how the game’s community and public presence grow at a pivotal moment—right as we expand social systems, begin more structured user acquisition, and develop creator partnership programs. Early team members help shape the studio’s voice and receive priority consideration for future leadership roles as we establish revenue and pursue additional projects (including original titles and digital adaptations of independent board games).
Work remotely on a flexible schedule, help turn a released indie mobile title into a sustainable business, and grow with us. Our goal is to foster a family-like atmosphere in which team members work collaboratively and can eventually enjoy studio-wide outings and activity days that include families.
Starting commitment is approximately 5–8 hours per week, scaling upward as revenue and compensation increase.
