About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

MULTI-ASSET SOLUTIONS OVERVIEW:
Multi-Asset Solutions, “MAS” is an investing group within the Asset Management Division at Goldman Sachs. MAS is responsible for managing customized multi-asset class portfolios and funds, including discretionary mandates for US and international public pension plans, sovereign wealth funds and insurance companies and providing outsourced CIO services. The team is comprised of professionals with deep and varied investment backgrounds who specialize in designing and implementing customized multi-asset class portfolios. The team applies rigorous techniques to strategic and tactical asset allocation, asset-liability analysis, portfolio design and implementation, risk management, and portfolio reporting and analytics. The team has been managing customized multi-asset class mandates since 1995 as a committed partner to corporate pensions, sovereign wealth funds, healthcare organizations, endowments, foundations, and government institutions.
Role:
The successful candidate will join the Bengaluru Portfolio Management team within MAS, focusing on the Outsourced CIO channel. The individual will be responsible for the day-to-day management of US and international defined benefit pension portfolios in line with the MAS investment philosophy, client guidelines, internal investment policies, and regulatory constraints. The role is highly analytical and detail-oriented, with an emphasis on managing strategic and dynamic investment exposures across multiple asset classes and investment strategies.
The Vice President will apply rigorous portfolio management techniques across strategic and tactical asset allocation, asset-liability analysis, portfolio design and implementation, risk management, and portfolio reporting and analytics. Working closely with senior portfolio managers and teams across MAS, the individual will translate pension client objectives—including funded status, liquidity, liability hedging, and de-risking goals—into actionable portfolio decisions and scalable implementation.
Core Responsibilities:
Manage customized multi-asset OCIO portfolios for defined benefit pension clients in line with client guidelines, internal investment policies, the MAS investment philosophy, and regulatory constraints.
Develop investment judgment and expertise, with the expectation of independently performing key portfolio management responsibilities within a short period of joining.
Manage strategic and dynamic investment exposures across equities, fixed income, currencies, and alternatives using futures, forwards, exchange-traded funds, options, swaps, funds, and other appropriate instruments.
Manage portfolio risk across investment vehicles and product desks, including asset exposures, funded-status risk, interest-rate and credit sensitivities, currency, cash, liquidity, collateral, and investment manager and vehicle oversight.
Work closely with other MAS teams to implement strategic and dynamic asset allocation views consistently and on scale, including selecting optimal instruments based on pension objectives, fund-specific guidelines, regulatory requirements, liquidity, and market considerations.
Structure trades across asset classes to manage portfolios in line with liability-hedging, de-risking, cash-flow, and rebalancing considerations, in collaboration with trading desks and relevant investment teams.
Manage derivative-based overlay strategies to improve the overall risk profile of portfolios, implement liability-driven investment objectives, and capture market risk premia where appropriate.
Analyze portfolio risk, performance, and attribution; identify key drivers; and regularly report findings and recommended actions to senior portfolio managers.
Lead complex portfolio events, including onboarding new client mandates, restructuring portfolios, transitioning managers, transferring assets, deploying contributions, funding benefit payments, and implementing liability-hedging or de-risking actions. Coordinate these activities across internal teams, external managers, and trading counterparties.
Lead investment and risk projects that enhance and scale trading, portfolio management, controls, infrastructure, and analytics to strengthen oversight and mitigate investment and operational risks.
Clearly communicate investment strategies, portfolio positioning, performance, risk, and implementation rationale to internal stakeholders and client audiences with varying levels of investment sophistication.
Provide leadership and mentorship to junior team members and contribute to a collaborative, team-oriented global portfolio management environment.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; a postgraduate degree and/or CFA designation is preferred.
6–10 years of investment management experience, with a successful track record of leading teams and demonstrating the qualities and functional capabilities described above.
Ability to communicate investment strategies and rationales to audiences with varying levels of sophistication.
Proven leadership and project management skills, with experience working in global, cross-regional, and cross-functional teams.
Experience trading and managing risk using derivative instruments.
A positive attitude and eagerness to work in a team-oriented environment.
A high degree of investment awareness, including an understanding of macroeconomic trends and their implications for investing within a multi-asset framework. Intermediate or advanced knowledge of asset allocation principles and factor-investing approaches.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Creative problem-solving abilities.
Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
A self-starter who can work independently and thrive in a team environment.
