Role Overview
We are looking for a Senior Telecom Architect / Technology Lead with strong expertise in Roaming, Messaging and Signalling platforms. The role will lead technology strategy, architecture, deployment, optimisation and transformation of carrier-grade telecom platforms, working with Bayobab/MTN teams, OpCos, vendors and senior stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Define technology strategy, architecture and 3-year roadmap for Roaming, Messaging and Signalling.
Lead design, integration, deployment, commissioning and optimisation of telecom platforms.
Provide technical leadership across Roaming Hubs, Messaging Hubs, SMS Routing/Firewalls and Signalling platforms.
Drive platform modernisation, migration, cloud-native transformation, scalability, resilience and capacity planning.
Review solution architectures, technical designs and requirements.
Support vendor evaluation, business cases, investment decisions and technology governance.
Drive platform security, fraud prevention, revenue assurance and operational excellence.
Work closely with Technology, Architecture, Security, Product, Commercial, Operations, Vendors and MTN OpCos.

RCS/RBM, Number Intelligence, anti-spam and messaging revenue assurance
Signalling & Core Telecom
SS7, SIGTRAN, SCCP, ISUP, GSM MAP, CAMEL
Diameter, GTP, STP, DRA/DEA
5G SBA Signalling, IMS
Signalling security/firewalls and fraud prevention
GSM/LTE/5G Core Network architecture
IPX, SIP/RTP and telecom VAS
Technology
Virtualisation, VNF/CNF, Cloud, Containerisation and APIs
Linux/Unix environments
SQL and Python for analysis/reporting
Experience & Leadership
10+ years in telecom/carrier-grade platforms.
Strong hands-on experience in Roaming + Messaging + Signalling.
3+ years of leadership/management experience.
Experience managing vendors, partners and cross-functional technical teams.
Strong solution architecture, technology roadmap and stakeholder management experience.
Experience working across multiple geographies / telecom markets is advantageous.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, IT, Information Systems or related field. Relevant certifications/postgraduate qualifications are advantageous.
Ideal candidate: A senior telecom architect/technology leader from a mobile operator, telecom wholesale/carrier, roaming hub, signalling or messaging environment, with strong expertise across Roaming, Messaging, Signalling and telecom core networks.
