Embedded Software Engineer
Company Description
Akai Space Labs builds sensor-stack for physical AI data and deployment, providing egocentric capture hardware and multimodal pipelines that turn real-world experiences into training data for robotics foundation models.
Role Description
We’re looking for an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to bring up Linux on a custom compute-module board with multiple camera sensors and build a reliable, synchronized data-capture system.
You will own board-level software, camera drivers, capture pipelines, timestamp synchronization, and a host-side SDK and sample application. The goal is a system that records reliably over long runs, not just a demo that works on the bench.
Responsibilities
Bring up Linux on a compute module, including device tree, clocks, pinmux, and carrier-board peripherals.
Develop or integrate camera sensor drivers and build a synchronized multi-camera capture pipeline.
Implement hardware-clock-based synchronization across camera frames and other sensors.
Build raw-frame and hardware-encoded recording paths that preserve consistent timestamps.
Develop a host-side SDK, sample capture application, and data-format specification.
Build diagnostics for dropped frames and clock synchronization errors.
Support software bring-up on the first fabricated board and validate reliability during extended recording sessions.
Qualifications
Proven experience bringing up Linux on custom hardware, including writing device trees.
Hands-on experience developing or debugging MIPI CSI-2 camera drivers and capturing real sensor frames.
Experience building stable capture pipelines with frame-drop detection and long-duration recording.
Understanding of hardware-triggered capture, clock synchronization, and timestamp validation.
Familiarity with Linux userspace development and embedded debugging tools.
Good to Have
Multi-camera capture pipelines and hardware video encoders.
IMU integration or synchronization of multiple sensors to a common hardware clock.
Host-side SDK development, streaming pipelines, and ISP bring-up.
Compensation
₹80,000 - ₹1 lakh per month, depending on experience and fit.
How to Apply
Please share the following along with your résumé:
Board bring-up experience: One board you brought up and what you personally implemented across device tree, drivers, and userspace.
Camera pipeline: The sensor used, how capture was triggered or synchronized, and how you detected dropped frames.
Availability: Your earliest start date and estimated weeks to achieve first capture after receiving the board.
