PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The city of Aurora's Parks, Recreation and Open Space (PROS) Department's mission is to encourage active lifestyles and create healthy environments for people, nature and community.
The award-winning operation consists of seven divisions (Golf, Open Space and Natural Resources, Parks Operations, Planning, Design and Construction, Recreation, Business Services and Communications) that collectively manage more than 8,000 acres of open space, 100+ parks, 180+ athletic fields, over 100 miles of trails, three nature centers, two reservoirs, five recreation centers, five golf courses, indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities and one of Colorado's largest municipal urban forestry programs.

The hiring salary for this role is $54,564 - $68,205 annually
Salary to be commensurate with experience.

Position overview:
Recreation Center Staff ensure the facility is welcoming, safe, and efficient by assisting customers, managing registrations and transactions, maintaining clean spaces, and supporting programs and events. This role supervises staff and daily operations to ensure consistent, high‑quality service.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Recruit, select, assign, and supervise staff; provide ongoing coaching and administer appropriate discipline fairly and consistently, documenting actions per city procedures
Maintain clear, timely communication with customers, staff, and supervisors, including sharing updates, concerns, and important operational information
Provide friendly, professional service by greeting customers and responding to inquiries regarding programs, facilities, and services in person, by phone, and in writing
Educate customers about facility rules and safety procedures and ensure compliance
Resolve customer concerns, routine problems, and complaints; escalate issues as needed
Operate POS/recreation software, including tasks such as account management, registrations, memberships, and facility rentals
Handle financial transactions
Balance cash drawers and prepare end-of-shift reconciliation and deposit logs
Secure deposits, report discrepancies, and follow cash-handling procedures
Prepare operational or shift reports
Supervise program registration, membership, and attendance tracking
Manage logistics for facility rentals, including tours and facility rental agreements
Monitor inventories and purchase approved supplies
Oversee chemical storage and recordkeeping
Provide program support as needed, including assuming duties when required
Assist with setup, teardown, and equipment organization
Maintain knowledge of policies and procedures
Responds to emergencies
Perform routine cleaning and light janitorial duties
Open and close facilities following established checklists; ensure readiness, cleanliness, and safety

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in a related field
Experience:
3 years of experience in recreation center operations or a related field
1 year of supervisory experience
Knowledge:
Knowledge of business English, spelling, and math
Customer service best practices
Personal computers and related software applications

WORKING CONDITIONS
When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the city, all city of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
Physical Demands:
Moderate physical work that involves moving no more than 50 pounds with or without assistance at a time
May require occasional pushing, pulling, bending and stooping
Occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standing for extended periods
Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate computer keyboard and office equipment
Clear vision to read and interpret reports, computer data and other written material

Work Environment:
