About the role

Forward-Deployed AI Engineer Intern
Mindpex | 6–8 Months | Full-Time | Unpaid
Want real-world exposure to building a product from zero to revenue?
We're building enterprise software at Mindpex, and we're looking for technically strong, curious and committed people who want to build innovative, high-quality, production-grade software.
You'll work on real problems, interact with customers, understand their pain points, translate them into product requirements and build solutions that solve those problems.
You'll experience the entire journey: customer discovery, product management, PRDs, roadmaps, architecture, development, deployment, security, pilots and commercialisation.
This isn't your regular SDE internship. It's an opportunity to experience forward-deployed engineering: working at the intersection of customers, product and engineering.
Here's the deal
We're offering this exposure in an unpaid, full-time internship lasting 6–8 months.
In return, we're looking for people who have a strong technical foundation, are serious about building software, communicate consistently, take ownership and are committed to seeing things through.
Technical requirements: Read this carefully
We're looking for full-stack engineering generalists who understand how the different pieces of a modern software product fit together.
1. Frontend and application development
JavaScript and TypeScript.
React and Next.js.
Building responsive web applications and Progressive Web Apps (PWAs).
Integrating frontend applications with backend services.
2. Backend engineering
Strong working knowledge of Node.js and Python.
Building backend services, business logic and REST APIs.
Authentication, authorisation, validation, error handling and application architecture.
Connecting frontend, backend and databases into a functioning application.
3. Databases and data management
Supabase, including its database and authentication capabilities.
PostgreSQL and relational database fundamentals.
Database schemas, queries, relationships, migrations and access controls.
Understanding when different database technologies are appropriate.
4. APIs and external integrations
Consuming and integrating third-party APIs.
Working with API keys, authentication, webhooks, rate limits and failures.
Testing APIs, troubleshooting integration issues and validating responses.
Integrating external AI providers, billing services and other business systems.
5. AI and machine learning
Understanding AI/ML fundamentals and practical AI application development.
Working with LLMs, model APIs, prompts, structured outputs and data-processing pipelines.
Integrating AI capabilities into full-stack applications.
Handling errors, validating model outputs and considering cost, latency and reliability.
6. Cloud infrastructure and deployment
Deploying and operating applications on cloud platforms.
Understanding frontend hosting, backend services, databases, environment variables, secrets and networking.
Configuring build and deployment pipelines.
Understanding logs, monitoring, backups, scaling and production troubleshooting.
7. DevSecOps and application security
Secure coding practices and dependency management.
Authentication, authorisation, secrets management and database security.
Understanding CI/CD, automated checks and secure deployment practices.
API security testing, vulnerability assessment and penetration-testing fundamentals.
Debugging security issues and understanding how to remediate them.
8. Testing, debugging and code quality
Writing maintainable, modular and production-oriented code.
Unit testing, integration testing and API testing.
Diagnosing issues across frontend, backend, databases and external services.
Using Git and GitHub effectively, reviewing changes and documenting technical decisions.
Understanding edge cases, failure handling and regression testing.
9. Billing and commercial integrations
Integrating billing and subscription services through APIs.
Understanding plans, pricing, usage-based billing, invoices, payment status and subscription lifecycles.
Handling billing events, webhooks, failures and reconciliation.
Understanding how technical implementation connects to product pricing and revenue.
You don't need to be an expert in every cloud platform or database technology. However, you should have a strong full-stack foundation, hands-on project experience and the ability to understand how an application moves from development to a deployed, functioning product.
Beyond the code
You'll also get exposure to:
Talking to customers and understanding real-world problems.
Turning customer conversations into PRDs, user stories and product roadmaps.
Making product and technical decisions.
Designing, building, testing and deploying solutions.
Running pilots, incorporating feedback and iterating on the product.
Understanding how products are commercialised and become revenue-generating businesses.
Who should apply?
We're looking for talented students who are not in their final year of college, have built meaningful projects and want to take their skills into the real world.
You should be a good communicator, honest, dependable, comfortable with open-ended problems and someone others enjoy working with.
Technical ability matters. So do commitment, communication and character.
The final deal
Duration: 6–8 months.
Commitment: Full-time. Part-time applications will not be considered.
Compensation: Unpaid. No stipend.
Expectation: Consistent communication, ownership, reliability and a genuine commitment to the agreed duration.
We're offering real exposure to the journey from ideation to revenue. You decide whether that opportunity is worth your time.
If you want to build, experiment, solve real problems, work directly with customers and understand the complete lifecycle of an AI-powered enterprise product, you're welcome to apply.
If this isn't what you're looking for, that's completely fine. Keep scrolling.
Interested? Share your résumé, GitHub profile, projects you've built, current year of study and confirmation that you can commit full-time for 6–8 months.
