About the Role
Optomi is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for a 100% remote, contract-to-hire opportunity. This role is suited to an experienced full-stack engineer who can work across React, Node.js, and Java while taking ownership of application features from design through deployment.
You will develop scalable application components, APIs, and services that support patient-facing workflows and healthcare data integrations. The role also involves strengthening automated testing and CI/CD practices, contributing to technical architecture decisions, and mentoring other developers.
The ideal candidate combines strong hands-on engineering skills with technical leadership, sound problem-solving, and the ability to deliver solutions across the full software development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
•Design, develop, and maintain full-stack application features using React, Node.js, and Java.
•Build reusable components, APIs, and backend services for patient-facing application workflows.
•Develop and support healthcare data integrations and application services.
•Build and maintain automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
•Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to improve application quality and release reliability.
•Support cloud-based and containerized application deployments.
•Contribute to application architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical decision-making.
•Identify technical improvements and help implement scalable, maintainable solutions.
•Mentor developers and share engineering knowledge and best practices.
•Take ownership of assigned solutions from initial design through implementation and delivery.
Required Qualifications
•Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
•10+ years of software development experience.
•Strong full-stack development experience with React and Node.js.
•Experience developing backend applications and services using Java.
•Experience building and integrating REST APIs and modern web applications.
•Experience developing automated tests and working with CI/CD pipelines.
•Experience with AWS and containerized application environments.
•Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring software developers.
•Strong communication, problem-solving, and ownership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
•Experience with healthcare application development.
•Knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards, including HL7 and FHIR.
•Experience with Next.js and TypeScript.
•Familiarity with Docker, OpenShift, and Kubernetes.
•Experience with automated testing tools such as Jest and Cypress.
