About The Opportunity
Our client is a US-based payments and financial technology company looking to establish and scale its India operations.
This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced professional who can help build the India organisation from the ground up, initially focusing on technology and engineering, with the potential to expand into additional business functions as the operation grows.
The successful candidate will work closely with US-based leadership to establish the local team, develop hiring and operating processes, drive execution, and build a strong foundation for long-term growth.
The client is seeking someone who combines technology leadership, team-building capability and operational ownership, with the ability to translate business priorities into a well-functioning India operation.
Key Responsibilities1. Establish and Scale India Operations
Lead the initial establishment and growth of the company's India operations.
Develop the operating structure, priorities and execution plans in alignment with US leadership.
Establish effective processes, accountability mechanisms and performance metrics.
Coordinate local operational requirements and support the development of a sustainable India presence.
Build Technology and Engineering Teams
Develop and execute hiring plans aligned with business and product priorities.
Build teams across relevant technology functions, including software engineering, DevOps/cloud, data, QA, product/business analysis, infrastructure and technical operations.
Establish repeatable recruitment, assessment, selection and onboarding processes.
Work with internal stakeholders and recruitment partners to attract and retain strong talent.
Develop team structures, role definitions and performance expectations as the organisation scales.
Technology Leadership and Delivery
Work closely with US technology leadership to translate product and business priorities into execution plans.
Understand software development practices, engineering workflows, agile methodologies and technology delivery models.
Participate in evaluating engineering talent and assessing technical team capabilities.
Monitor delivery progress, team performance, dependencies and execution risks.
Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, quality and continuous improvement.
Cross-Border Stakeholder Management
Serve as a key coordination point between the India team and US leadership.
Establish clear communication rhythms, reporting practices and escalation mechanisms.
Align teams across geographies on priorities, timelines, responsibilities and business outcomes.
Help build a collaborative working culture across distributed teams.
Operational Processes and Organisational Development
Establish appropriate processes for onboarding, performance management, team engagement and people development.
Coordinate with relevant partners on local employment arrangements, vendors and operational requirements.
Support the evolution of the India organisation as additional functions and responsibilities are introduced.
Identify operational challenges early and implement practical, scalable solutions.
Technology and Business Context
The company is developing and expanding technology capabilities across areas such as customer relationship management, data warehousing, payment acceptance, terminal applications and payment gateway-related products.
The role does not require the individual to be a hands-on software developer or technical architect. However, a strong understanding of technology organisations, engineering practices and software delivery is essential.
Ideal Candidate Profile
10+ years of relevant professional experience, preferably with substantial experience in technology leadership, engineering operations, organisational development or a related function.
Demonstrated experience building, establishing or scaling teams, preferably in a technology-led organisation.
Experience with hiring strategy, team structuring, onboarding and performance management.
Ability to work effectively with senior stakeholders and leadership teams across geographies.
Strong understanding of software engineering organisations, agile delivery practices and technology operations.
Excellent communication, planning, stakeholder management and problem-solving skills.
A hands-on, entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to work through ambiguity and establish processes where they do not yet exist.
Preferred Experience
Experience in fintech, payments, banking technology, SaaS or software product organisations.
Experience working with international leadership teams, particularly US-based stakeholders.
Experience establishing or scaling an India technology centre, offshore operation, GCC or distributed engineering organisation.
Exposure to transitioning teams or capabilities from outsourced arrangements to direct, in-house teams.
Familiarity with local employment arrangements, operational setup and the requirements of building a new team in India.
