About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
Barossa Capital is a growing investment and proprietary trading firm focused on global macro and fixed income. The firm seeks to develop a fundamental understanding of the forces driving markets and economies and translate those insights into investment opportunities across global markets.
Our investment approach combines fundamental macroeconomic research, fixed income analysis, and disciplined risk management. We invest and trade across rates, sovereign and corporate fixed income, credit, currencies, commodities, and equities, with an emphasis on identifying opportunities where our fundamental view differs from prevailing market expectations.
About the Role
The Fixed Income investment team is responsible for developing and evaluating investment strategies across global rates and credit markets. Our research process seeks to understand how economic growth, inflation, monetary policy, credit conditions, and market expectations influence interest rates, yield curves, spreads, and fixed income valuations.
The Investment Analyst Intern will work within the investment process, supporting research and portfolio analysis while developing practical experience evaluating fixed income markets and investment ideas. The internship is designed for undergraduate students interested in fixed income, credit, rates, trading, and financial markets.
The role has three primary areas of focus:
Investment Research & Idea Generation: Conduct research across fixed income markets, analyze interest rates, yield curves, credit spreads, issuer fundamentals, and market developments, and contribute to the development of investment ideas.
Trading & Portfolio Analysis: Evaluate potential trade structures and relative-value opportunities, monitor positions and market developments, and support analysis related to portfolio positioning, duration, hedging, and risk.
Investment Risk & Review: Evaluate catalysts, downside scenarios, interest-rate and credit risk, and changing market conditions while assisting with performance attribution and post-investment reviews.
Role and Responsibilities
The Investment Analyst Intern will contribute to the firm's broader fixed income investment process while developing expertise across one or more areas of market coverage.
Responsibilities include performing research related to central-bank policy, interest rates, yield curves, sovereign and corporate bonds, credit spreads, issuer fundamentals, valuation, relative value, and portfolio risk.
Interns will have opportunities to develop investment theses that articulate the fundamental view, market expectations, valuation, catalyst, potential trade expression, expected return, downside risk, time horizon, and conditions that would invalidate the thesis.
Additional responsibilities may include maintaining fixed income and market models, monitoring portfolio exposures, analyzing performance attribution, developing quantitative research tools, preparing research materials, and presenting investment recommendations.
Qualifications
We are seeking students who display the following characteristics:
Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree with strong academic performance and a demonstrated record of achievement
Demonstrated interest in fixed income, credit, interest rates, investing, trading, or financial markets
Coursework in finance, economics, accounting, mathematics, statistics, computer science, or a related discipline is preferred but not required
Intellectual curiosity, independent judgment, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Familiarity with concepts such as bond pricing, yield, duration, yield curves, or credit spreads is a plus but not required
Familiarity with Excel; experience with Python, SQL, Bloomberg, FactSet, or similar tools is a plus but not required
Prior investment management or trading experience is not required
Ability to operate independently in a fully remote environment while collaborating effectively with the broader investment team
High degree of integrity, attention to detail, intellectual humility, and willingness to learn
Our Investment Culture
Barossa Capital seeks to build an investment culture centered on independent thinking, intellectual rigor, continuous learning, and disciplined risk-taking.
We believe strong investment decisions begin with understanding how and why markets behave as they do. Interns are encouraged to ask questions, challenge prevailing assumptions, debate investment ideas, and develop views based on evidence rather than consensus.
The firm is growing, and interns will have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the continued development of our research, trading, portfolio management, and risk-management processes while gaining practical experience in fixed income investing.
