About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

Barossa Capital is a growing investment and proprietary trading firm focused on global macro and fixed income. The firm seeks to develop a fundamental understanding of the forces driving markets and economies and translate those insights into investment opportunities across global markets.
Our investment approach combines fundamental macroeconomic research, cross-asset analysis, and disciplined risk management. We invest and trade across rates, fixed income, currencies, credit, commodities, and equities, with an emphasis on identifying opportunities where our fundamental view differs from prevailing market expectations.
About the Role
The Global Macro investment team is responsible for developing and executing investment strategies across global markets. Our research process seeks to understand the relationships between economic growth, inflation, monetary and fiscal policy, liquidity, capital flows, and asset prices.
The Investment Analyst Intern will work within the investment process, supporting research and portfolio analysis while developing practical experience forming market views and investment ideas. The internship is designed for undergraduate students interested in global macro investing, fixed income, trading, and financial markets.
The role has three primary areas of focus:
Investment Research & Idea Generation: Conduct fundamental research across global economies and markets, analyze economic and market developments, and contribute to the development of investment ideas across rates, fixed income, currencies, credit, commodities, and equities.
Trading & Portfolio Analysis: Evaluate potential trade structures, monitor positions and market developments, and support analysis related to portfolio construction, position sizing, hedging, and risk.
Investment Risk & Review: Evaluate catalysts, downside scenarios, portfolio exposures, and changing market conditions. Assist with performance attribution and post-investment reviews to understand investment outcomes and improve the investment process.
Role and Responsibilities
The Investment Analyst Intern will contribute to the firm's broader global macro investment process while developing expertise across one or more areas of market coverage.
Responsibilities include performing research related to economic conditions, central-bank policy, interest rates, yield curves, market positioning, valuation, relative value, portfolio risk, and cross-asset relationships.
Interns will have opportunities to develop investment theses that articulate the fundamental view, market expectations, variant perception, catalyst, potential trade expression, expected return, downside risk, time horizon, and conditions that would invalidate the thesis.
Additional responsibilities may include maintaining economic and market models, monitoring portfolio exposures, analyzing performance attribution, developing quantitative research tools, preparing research materials, presenting investment recommendations, and contributing to the development of new strategies and trading approaches.
Qualifications
We are seeking students who display the following characteristics:
Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree with strong academic performance and a demonstrated record of achievement
Demonstrated interest in global macroeconomics, investing, fixed income, trading, or financial markets
Coursework in finance, economics, accounting, mathematics, statistics, computer science, or a related discipline is preferred but not required
Intellectual curiosity, independent judgment, and willingness to develop and defend a differentiated perspective
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in understanding how economic developments affect financial markets
Familiarity with one or more areas including rates, fixed income, credit, FX, commodities, or equities is a plus
Familiarity with Excel; experience with Python, SQL, Bloomberg, FactSet, or similar analytical tools is a plus but not required
Prior investment management or trading experience is not required
Ability to operate independently in a fully remote environment while collaborating effectively with the broader investment team
High degree of integrity, attention to detail, intellectual humility, and willingness to learn
Our Investment Culture
Barossa Capital seeks to build an investment culture centered on independent thinking, intellectual rigor, continuous learning, and disciplined risk-taking.
We believe strong investment decisions begin with understanding how and why markets and economies behave as they do. Interns are encouraged to ask questions, challenge prevailing assumptions, debate investment ideas, and develop views based on evidence rather than consensus.
The firm is growing, and interns will have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the continued development of our research, trading, portfolio management, and risk-management processes while gaining practical experience in the global macro investment process.
