Company Description FLOWer Lab is part of the Centre for Functional Ecology at the University of Coimbra and focuses on plant ecology, evolution, agro-environment, and pollination services. The team studies plant diversification and sympatric speciation, with a particular focus on polyploidization processes and plant-pollinator interactions. Research outcomes help explain current patterns of plant diversity and support pollination as a key ecosystem service for sustainable agroecosystems. The group is committed to biodiversity conservation through reproductive biology and ecology studies, as well as in situ and ex situ conservation of endangered species and the valorization of endogenous genetic resources. Role Description The Vice President of Market Insights is a full-time remote role responsible for shaping FLOWer Lab’s understanding of market dynamics across ecology, agro-environmental services, and related research and commercialization opportunities. This role involves designing and leading market research initiatives, analyzing sector trends, and translating complex data into actionable insights for strategic decision-making. The Vice President will collaborate with leadership to identify funding opportunities, potential partnerships, and pathways for knowledge transfer and innovation in ecosystem services. Daily tasks include building and maintaining dashboards and reports, advising on pricing and financial models for services or collaborations, guiding commercial strategies, and supporting cross-functional projects related to market positioning. The role also requires close coordination with scientific and operational teams to align market insights with the lab’s research priorities and long-term mission.
Qualifications
Strong analytical skills, including quantitative and qualitative analysis, data interpretation, and the ability to translate findings into strategic recommendations.
Experience in finance, such as budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and evaluating the economic viability of projects or market opportunities.
Background in sales, business development, or partnership management, with the ability to identify and cultivate relationships that support organizational growth.
Exposure to trading or market mechanisms (e.g., environmental markets, credits, or similar domains) is beneficial for evaluating ecosystem service valuation and related opportunities.
Proven project management skills, including planning, prioritization, stakeholder coordination, and delivery of complex initiatives on schedule.
Advanced degree in business, economics, environmental management, or a related field, or equivalent experience in market research and strategy.
Experience in ecological, environmental, or scientific sectors (or strong interest in these areas) is highly valued.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate insights clearly to scientific and non-scientific audiences.
Ability to work independently in a remote setting, demonstrate sound judgment, and collaborate effectively across diverse, international teams.
