Introduction to the job
Engineering Simulation plays an increasingly important role in how engineers design, test and optimize products. Behind it sits a complex landscape of simulation applications, engineering workplaces and high-performance computing capabilities.
As Domain Owner Engineering Simulation, you will lead the (IT) domain that provides these capabilities. You will set the direction, build the roadmap, lead the organization and ensure successful delivery of the IT platforms and IT services that engineers rely on every day.
This is a significant leadership role covering strategy, delivery, people and organizational development. You will report directly to the Head of Electrical Engineering & Machine Conditioning and lead 11 direct reports, supported by a broader group of internal and external specialists.
Role and responsibilities
You are the end-to-end owner of the Engineering Simulation domain.
You will translate business priorities into a clear strategy, multi-year roadmap and delivery plan. You will make choices about priorities, investments and capacity and ensure execution against agreed quality, timing and cost objectives.
At the same time, you will help build the organization needed for the future. You will strengthen capabilities, develop talent and create an environment in which teams can perform, grow and take ownership.
A key part of the role is your close partnership with the Domain Architect. Together, you connect business priorities, technical direction and delivery. You will also work closely with Product Owners, engineers, domain experts, suppliers and other stakeholders to achieve coherent outcomes across the domain.
What you will do:
Strategy and value realization
You will define and drive the domain strategy and multi-year roadmap, aligned with broader business and technology priorities. The role goes beyond setting direction. You will translate that direction into executable plans and measurable outcomes.
You will:
Define and maintain the domain strategy and roadmap.
Translate business priorities into domain plans, work packages, scope and dependencies.
Maintain the rolling six-quarter plan and adapt scope and capacity when priorities or circumstances change.
Create clarity around priorities and investment choices.
Track value realization through improvements in productivity, quality, cost, innovation and people development.
Align teams and stakeholders around the agreed direction.
Delivery and platform ownership
You will be accountable for delivery across the Engineering Simulation domain.
You will manage risks, dependencies, governance and critical decisions, while ensuring that commitments are delivered against agreed scope, quality, timing and cost.
You will also act as IT owner of the Engineering Simulation application landscape, the Engineering Simulation Workplace and the High-Performance Computing platform. Your ownership covers the full lifecycle, from design and delivery through operations and continuous improvement.
You will:
Manage delivery risks, dependencies, governance and critical decisions.
Ensure successful delivery against agreed commitments.
Own the Engineering Simulation application landscape, Engineering Simulation Workplace and HPC platform.
Ensure effective integration with related engineering, tooling and data domains.
Continuously improve the platforms, services and ways of working so that they remain aligned with changing engineering needs.
Stakeholder and supplier leadership
The Engineering Simulation domain operates at the intersection of engineering, IT and external technology partners. Success depends on clear priorities, strong partnerships and the ability to resolve dependencies before they affect delivery.
You will act as a strategic partner to engineering and IT stakeholders. You will translate business needs into concrete plans, align priorities across teams and ensure that ownership is clear.
You will also manage suppliers and external resources, including onboarding and offboarding, and hold partners accountable for their commitments and performance.
Build and lead the organization
This is a substantial people leadership role.
You will lead and develop the teams within the domain and build the capabilities required for the future. Beyond delivering the roadmap, you will strengthen the organization itself.
This means creating clarity around roles, responsibilities and accountability. You will assign leadership roles within teams where needed, develop talent and help people take on broader ownership. You will coach teams and leaders, strengthen collaboration and improve how work flows through the organization.
You will create an environment in which people can perform, learn and grow. You will also use relevant metrics to assess team and partner performance, improve delivery predictability and follow through on improvement actions.
Education and experience
You combine technical leadership, delivery management and people leadership. You are comfortable working in a complex environment, making priorities explicit and balancing long-term direction with day-to-day execution.
You bring:
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
Approximately 7 to 10 years of experience in product, platform, program or delivery leadership within complex technical environments.
Proven experience in end-to-end product or platform ownership, delivery leadership, people leadership and supplier management.
Experience managing stakeholders, suppliers and cross-functional teams in large organizations.
Experience working across cultures, locations and time zones.
Exposure to large-scale engineering or R&D environments.
Experience with Engineering Simulation, High-Performance Computing, scientific computing, simulation applications or data-intensive engineering workflows would help you get up to speed quickly.
Deep domain experience is valuable, but it is not the only route into this role. You may instead bring a strong technical foundation, proven leadership experience and the curiosity and learning agility to build credibility quickly. Your ability to ask the right questions and use the expertise around you is as important as your previous domain experience.
