About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
PROLIM Global Corporation (www.prolim.com) is hiring a Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Migration Engineer for the location of Remote, United States.
Job Description
PROLIM is leading a Microsoft Hyper-V to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure migration for a healthcare-adjacent nonprofit client. The organization is operating on a temporary platform following a facility loss, and that platform has to be retired on a firm timeline. Roughly 45 systems have been inventoried; 19 are confirmed in scope for the move.
You would own the hands-on work — assessment, landing-zone build, and execution. This is an engineering seat rather than an advisory one: you write the runbooks and you run the cutovers.
The estate is genuinely interesting to work on. Windows Server spanning 2008 R2 through 2022, multiple Active Directory domains, physical servers converting to cloud, SQL and reporting workloads, and a hard constraint that Oracle's own migration service doesn't support Hyper-V as a source. If you have solved that problem before, you will recognize the shape of this immediately.
Responsibilities
Assessment and planning
Reconcile and document the Windows/Hyper-V estate — inventory, dependencies, utilization and storage profiles
Assign an evidence-backed disposition to each workload: rehost, replatform, upgrade and rebuild, retain, or retire
Right-size target compute shapes and Block Volume performance tiers against measured demand rather than installed capacity
OCI build
Stand up the landing zone: tenancy, compartments, VCN and subnets, route tables, security lists and network security groups, DRG, IAM policies and Vault keys
Establish site-to-cloud connectivity — IPSec Site-to-Site VPN for early waves, FastConnect at steady state — including carrier and on-ramp selection and measured latency validation
Design backup, immutability and cross-region disaster recovery using OCI-native services
Migration execution
Move Hyper-V workloads to OCI using agent-based replication tooling, wave by wave
Plan and execute Active Directory work across multiple domains: new domain controllers in OCI, replication, FSMO transfer, DNS, and Sites and Services
Resolve end-of-life Windows systems (Server 2008 R2, 2012 and 2012 R2) through in-place upgrade, rebuild and migrate, or isolation — with application vendor certification confirmed before committing
Convert two physical Dell PowerEdge servers to cloud, one of them a SQL Server host
Produce the per-VM runbooks, acceptance tests, rollback triggers and hypercare documentation the client signs against
What we need
Five or more years migrating production Windows Server workloads to public cloud, including at least one completed end-to-end OCI migration you can walk through in detail
Hands-on Hyper-V — hosts, clusters, VHDX, live migration, export and import
Practical familiarity with the OCI services this work touches: Compute, Block Volume, Object Storage, VCN, DRG, Site-to-Site VPN, FastConnect, IAM, Vault and Cloud Guard
Replication-based migration tooling — RackWare RMM, Carbonite/OpenText Migrate, Cristie, Zerto or comparable — through seed, delta sync, test cutover and failback
Windows Server administration from 2008 R2 through 2022, including upgrade and rebuild paths for out-of-support versions
Active Directory migration and consolidation across multiple domains: FSMO, replication topology and DNS
SQL Server migration fundamentals — backup and restore, Always On basics, licensing implications
Networking depth: subnetting, routing, IPSec, firewall policy, DNS and certificate cutover, IP re-addressing
PowerShell for repeatable work; Terraform or OCI CLI a strong plus
The judgment and writing ability to produce a runbook someone else could follow
Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship, now and for the duration
Overlap with US Pacific business hours, and availability for weekend or overnight cutover windows
Nice to have
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Architect Associate or Professional certification on the current track
Delivery inside a HIPAA-regulated environment, including familiarity with Business Associate Agreements and PHI handling boundaries
Exchange Server migration or decommissioning
Remote Desktop Services or Terminal Server migration
Migration experience with Hyper-V specifically as the source, as distinct from VMware
Prior work as a subcontractor within a prime-contractor delivery structure
Nonprofit or healthcare sector delivery
