Job Description:
Managers of Student Learning & Development (MSLD) serve as the primary leaders for all of LSU CxC’s student-facing programs. They translate strategy into scalable, high-impact learning experiences that advance students’ writing, speaking, visual, and technological communication skills within and across disciplines. MSLDs develop co-curricular multimedia learning resources, lead in- and out-of-class workshops, train/mentor a student workforce of peer communication coaches, and contribute to the strategic planning of university-wide communication-intensive initiatives. This work directly supports LSU’s institutional goal of enhancing and expanding teaching and learning of the essential career-readiness skill—communication.
Job Responsibilities
Creating student-facing learning resources that advance C-I teaching and learning (40%):
CxC supports C-I teaching and learning within all disciplines across the Institution through in-class and out-of-class workshops, e-learning resources, individual and small-group coaching/feedback sessions, and interactive learning spaces. MSLDs develop and deliver all these components to meet student learning needs, contexts, and levels. Additionally, MSLDs contribute to the development of new resources and services to meet evolving student needs, in alignment with the University's strategy.
Training & upskilling undergraduate student workers who serve as Peer Communication Coaches across the campus (35%):
MSLDs plan, design, and facilitate trainings, lead real-time feedback sessions, and conduct formal evaluations to ensure all Peer Communication Coaches are highly skilled and able to effectively coach their peer clients on writing, speaking, visual, and technological communication class assignments, co-curricular projects, and overall skills development. Additionally, MSLDs model and foster a professional, client-centered environment; support the interviewing, selection, and ongoing performance management of the Peer Communication Coaches, and ensure ongoing high-quality service delivery.
Mentoring LSU Distinguished Communicator Medal Candidates (20%):
This University student recognition program is managed by the MSLDs. Primary activities include developing resources and leading workshops and small group coaching sessions for undergraduate students pursuing the Medal; reviewing and giving feedback to candidates on their portfolio websites; supporting the training of faculty advisors and review panelists; planning and executing the semesterly medal ceremony; and contributing to the implementation and continuous improvement of the Medal program.
