About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
We are seeking an experienced GIS Subject Matter Expert (SME) with 7+ years of professional experience to support Environmental, Social, Health & Safety (ESHS), Sustainability, ESG, and Impact Assessment projects across infrastructure, renewable energy, industrial, urban development, transportation, water, and manufacturing sectors. The role will focus on geospatial analysis, map development, web GIS applications, spatial databases, and GIS-based decision support for environmental and social assessments. GIS capabilities are an integral part of Ramboll's impact assessment, environmental review, site evaluation, due diligence, and sustainability services.
Key Responsibilities
Develop high-quality GIS maps, figures, dashboards, StoryMaps, and spatial products using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online in accordance with Ramboll cartographic and quality standards.
Conduct spatial analyses including environmental constraints mapping, land-use assessment, accessibility studies, socio-economic profiling, cumulative impact assessment, climate risk screening, and site suitability analysis.
Integrate environmental, social, infrastructure, demographic, regulatory, and satellite datasets to support project planning and decision-making.
Support project teams in site selection, alternatives assessment, permitting, due diligence, stakeholder engagement, and impact assessment studies.
Develop and maintain web GIS applications, ArcGIS Online solutions, dashboards, and interactive mapping tools.
Manage geospatial datasets, metadata, quality assurance, and GIS standards.
Support biodiversity screening, critical habitat assessments, social baseline studies, climate risk assessments, and ESG due diligence through geospatial analysis.
Prepare maps and geospatial deliverables for technical reports, client presentations, lender reviews, and regulatory submissions.
Collaborate with environmental, social, biodiversity, health & safety, climate, and sustainability specialists in multidisciplinary projects.
Contribute to proposal preparation, methodology development, innovation initiatives, and business development activities.
Mentor junior GIS analysts and support the development of GIS best practices and workflows.
Ensure all GIS deliverables adhere to organisational GIS standards, data governance requirements, cartographic guidelines, metadata standards, and quality assurance processes. Promote consistent use of approved ArcGIS workflows, templates, symbology standards, and enterprise geospatial services across projects.
Support the development and maintenance of the organisation's enterprise geospatial ecosystem, including ArcGIS Online content, shared data services, map templates, and reusable GIS workflows.
Review GIS outputs produced by other team members to ensure compliance with organizational standards, project requirements, and client expectations.
Act as the geospatial subject matter expert for Environment & Health projects, providing technical guidance, mentoring, and best-practice recommendations to project teams and junior GIS professionals.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in GIS, Geography, Geoinformatics, Remote Sensing, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Geology, or related discipline.
7–10 years of relevant GIS and geospatial analysis experience.
Strong proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Enterprise GIS, Web GIS, spatial databases, and geospatial data management. Experience with other GIS platforms is beneficial; however, GIS production workflows, map authoring, cartography, and client deliverables should be developed using the organisations standard ArcGIS platform.
Experience in environmental and social impact assessments, sustainability, infrastructure planning, renewable energy, or related sectors.
Experience working with satellite imagery, remote sensing data, and geospatial modelling techniques.
Working knowledge of international standards such as IFC Performance Standards, World Bank EHS Guidelines, Equator Principles, ESG frameworks, and sustainability reporting requirements is desirable.
Strong analytical, visualization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills
Experience with Python, ArcPy, SQL, Power BI, FME, or GIS automation tools.
Experience developing GIS dashboards, enterprise GIS solutions, and decision-support systems.
Knowledge of biodiversity assessments, climate risk mapping, ESG due diligence, environmental permitting, and sustainability reporting.
