Commercial Accountant

About the Role
We are seeking a results-driven Commercial Accountant to take end-to-end ownership of our commercial pricing, job costing, and management reporting.
In custom B2B packaging, accurate estimation is the key to preserving margins. We need an operational financial professional who has directly calculated custom job estimates—factoring in substrate grades, tooling, setup times, scrap allowances, and freight—and turned those operational numbers into actionable management reports, budgets, and forecasts.
Key Responsibilities
B2B Job Costing & Quote Preparation
Build accurate client estimates and pricing models for custom packaging orders.
Account for raw material costs (board, films, inks), tooling/die-cutting setups, conversion labor, run speeds, scrap rates, and logistics.
Management Reporting
Prepare monthly management packs for executive leadership.
Report on gross margins by product line and account, standard vs. actual cost variances, and overhead absorption.
Budgeting & Rolling Forecasts
Lead the annual operational budgeting process and build dynamic rolling forecasts.
Factor in raw material price index fluctuations, plant capacity, and changing order volumes.
Commercial Profitability & Operations
Partner with Sales and Production to audit low-margin runs and contract pricing.
Track machine overhead and direct labor variances on the plant floor to eliminate cost leakage.
What We are Looking For
Industry Experience: Direct experience in B2B packaging, print, paper converting, FMCG, or custom manufacturing with hands-on job costing exposure.
Core Skills: Strong foundation in management accounting, financial reporting, and variance analysis.
Technical Proficiency: Advanced Excel (margin modeling, scenario planning, pivot tables)
Education & Credentials: Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Commercial Mindset: Strong understanding of unit economics—how batch sizes, waste factors, and raw material shifts impact the bottom line.
Collaboration: Clear communication skills to work effectively across cross-functional teams (Sales, Operations, Executive Leadership).
