Senior System Architect

Role Description The Senior System Architect role is a part-time, remote position responsible for designing and overseeing the technical architecture of EFBR’s online platform. This role involves defining system and integration architectures, guiding systems design, and collaborating with software development teams to ensure scalable, secure, and reliable solutions. The Senior System Architect will review existing systems, identify improvements, and recommend technologies and patterns that support performance, maintainability, and future growth. Day-to-day activities include producing architectural documentation, aligning technical decisions with business needs, mentoring technical contributors, and coordinating with stakeholders to translate functional requirements into robust technical designs.
Qualifications
Strong expertise in System Architecture and Systems Design to define and evolve complex, distributed platforms.
Hands-on experience in Software Development, with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams and review code-level decisions.
Solid background in Systems Engineering to ensure reliability, scalability, security, and observability of the overall solution.
Proficiency in Integration, including API design, data flows, and connecting third-party services and internal systems.
Experience with cloud-based architectures (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP), microservices, and modern web technologies.
Ability to produce clear architectural diagrams, technical documentation, and guidelines for development teams.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to balance technical quality, cost, and delivery timelines.
Effective communication and collaboration skills, comfortable working remotely with cross-functional stakeholders.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field; advanced degree or equivalent experience is an asset.
Previous experience in digital platforms, online communities, or education-related technology is a plus.
