About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

We are not looking for someone to simply wait for tickets.
LOCATION & WORK ARRANGEMENT
Applicants must currently be based in Sri Lanka. This role is mostly remote, with occasional hybrid/in-person meetings or workshops in Sri Lanka with reasonable advance notice.
UVAVEC is building a small internal technology team to create high-end digital products for serious businesses and to bring selected product development in-house.
We are looking for a Full-Stack Product Builder who can take a business problem, rough prototype, workflow, or incomplete product concept and turn it into a well-built production system with minimal hand-holding.
At UVAVEC, you will not always receive a perfectly written technical specification. You will often receive context, a problem, a prototype, and an outcome we want to achieve. Your responsibility is to understand it, make sensible technical decisions, build the solution, and take ownership of the result.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Build modern web applications end-to-end.
• Work from business problems, prototypes, workflows, and incomplete requirements.
• Make sound decisions around architecture, database design, APIs, authentication, integrations, and implementation.
• Develop polished, maintainable frontend and backend systems.
• Integrate third-party services and AI capabilities where useful.
• Take features from concept through deployment, debugging, iteration, and production.
• Review your own work for usability, performance, maintainability, security, and edge cases.
• Work closely with a UI/UX-focused designer and the UVAVEC solution/product leadership.
• Help mentor engineering interns through practical implementation and code quality.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
• Strong hands-on experience with React and/or Next.js.
• Strong JavaScript/TypeScript fundamentals.
• Experience with Node.js and backend development.
• Working knowledge of PostgreSQL or another relational database.
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs.
• Strong Git/GitHub workflow.
• Practical understanding of deployment and production environments.
• Ability to work independently from an imperfect brief.
• Evidence of real software that you personally helped build and ship.
TECHNOLOGY IS IMPORTANT. JUDGMENT IS MORE IMPORTANT.
We want someone who notices when a technically correct solution is still a poor product.
You should be comfortable asking:
“Why are we doing this?”
“What will the user actually do?”
“What happens when the normal flow breaks?”
“Is there a simpler way to solve this?”
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• Typically 3+ years of hands-on professional experience building web applications. Candidates with 2+ years may be considered if they can demonstrate meaningful end-to-end ownership of production software.
• A degree, HND, diploma, or technical qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent practical experience and strong evidence of shipped work are also accepted.
• We assess demonstrated ability, engineering judgment, and ownership—not qualification titles alone.
THIS ROLE MAY NOT BE FOR YOU IF
• You need every task broken down before you can begin.
• Your preferred workflow is simply receiving Figma files and converting them into code.
• You define yourself mainly as someone who codes what others specify.
• Most of your experience comes from tutorials, academic projects, or clones rather than shipped products.
• You avoid making decisions when requirements are incomplete.
AI-ASSISTED DEVELOPMENT
UVAVEC actively uses modern AI-assisted development and research workflows. We value people who can use AI to move faster without surrendering engineering judgment, quality, security, or accountability.
WHAT UVAVEC OFFERS
• Exposure to real business problems across different industries.
• Direct involvement in 0-to-1 digital products.
• High ownership and room to influence implementation decisions.
• Close collaboration with business, product, design, and engineering thinking.
• The opportunity to help build UVAVEC’s core technology capability from the ground up.
COMPENSATION
LKR 80,000–200,000 per month, depending on capability, experience, demonstrated ownership, and fit.
HOW TO APPLY
Send your CV/LinkedIn profile and 2–3 examples of real work. For at least one project, tell us:
1. What was the problem?
2. What did you personally own?
3. Which decisions did you make yourself?
4. What would you change if you built it again?
We care more about evidence than polished CV language.
If you want to build software where the problem is real, the solution is not fully written for you, and you are expected to think—not just execute—we want to hear from you.
